Apple charges 30% more for advertising services on Facebook, Instagram

According to a Meta representative (managing the Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, etc. platforms), for many years, the Boosted Post advertising feature has supported businesses with limited resources in finding customers.

This is an advertising product for businesses to quickly promote content without having to set up a full campaign in Ads Manager.

Many small businesses use this as their only form of advertising on Facebook and Instagram. In fact, the majority of users of this advertising method are small businesses.

However, starting this July, when using the Facebook or Instagram Apps on the iOS platform to advertise, advertisers will be charged an additional 30% service fee by Apple on the total advertising amount, excluding applicable taxes and local fees.

"This service fee is collected by Apple, Meta does not collect any additional fees. Apple's service fee is a result of updates Apple made to the App Store Review Guidelines.

Meta is forced to comply with Apple's guidelines or remove promotional posts on iOS applications. Meta does not want to remove the advertising feature using available posts, because businesses will lose a convenient and effective advertising method" - Meta representative informed.

In an effort to help millions of small businesses use Facebook and Instagram's built-in post advertising, Meta suggests advertisers can go directly to Instagram.com or Facebook.com on mobile and desktop to promote content and avoid Apple's 30% service fee.

This way, advertisers can still use all the same features as when advertising from an iOS app, and won't be charged additional Apple service fees.
