The "Australia - Vietnam Strategic Technology Centre" has a vision of being an advanced research center to promote cooperation between the two countries in strategic technology areas such as 5G/6G technology, non-traditional space networks (NTN), artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and cyber security.
The centre was established with the support of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), and is operated in collaboration between the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) and Nokia.

"Connectivity technology like 5G is the foundation that enables the application of other technologies like AI and smart manufacturing," said the center's director, Associate Professor Nguyen Ngoc Diep. The center's technology partner, Nokia, predicts that 5G and next-generation 5G technology could contribute up to $8 trillion to global GDP by 2030. This opens up new growth potential for both Vietnam and Australia.
Representatives of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, UTS, Nokia, and the National Innovation Center worked at the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) on March 20, 2025.
With the mission of connecting research, industry and policy, in addition to establishing a modern 5G research laboratory, the Australia - Vietnam Strategic Technology Center sponsors strategic technology "seed" projects for Vietnamese and Australian scientists, scholarships and training programs for engineers, managers, young researchers and students nationwide. In particular, a mentoring program for women in the technology field and an innovation award for female scientists to honor and encourage women's contributions to technology are also implemented.
