Bac Kan builds Nam Cat Lake eco-tourism area

This is a step to concretize the Bac Kan Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2025 on investment and tourism development of Nam Cat Lake to become a provincial-level tourist area.

Nam Cat Lake (in Tay ethnic language means cold water lake), is an artificial irrigation lake, built in Duong Quang commune, Bac Kan city.

Although it is an irrigation lake, Nam Cat has great potential for tourism development as it is nestled in the middle of winding mountainous terrain, surrounded by overlapping mountain ranges.

With a water surface area of over 87 hectares, surrounded by villages of Dao, Nung, Tay ethnic groups with unique ethnic cultural identities, Nam Cat Lake is planned to become a resort and cultural experience center, playing an important role in realizing the goal of making tourism a spearhead economy of Bac Kan.

According to the People's Council of Bac Kan province, the scope and boundary of the planning for the construction of Nam Cat lake tourist area lies entirely within the administrative area of Duong Quang commune and within the new administrative unit that will be merged in the near future.

The planning project will establish a zoning plan for the construction of a tourist area on an area of about 1,675 hectares. This will be a tourist area that develops functional areas such as conference centers, spiritual tourism, resorts, ecological experiences under the forest canopy, entertainment, etc.

The tourist area will be divided into 3 functional areas associated with the potential of each area. Sub-area A has a scale of more than 508 hectares for commerce, community tourism and a golf course commercial complex in the south of the lake.

Zone B has a scale of more than 418 hectares for public service centers, squares, culinary villages, resorts, therapies, ecological experiences, flower villages, community tourism, hotels, water surface spaces...

Zone C has a scale of more than 748 hectares for picnic space, experiences under the forest canopy, and controlled adventure tourism.

What is very favorable for the development of Nam Cat Lake tourism is that the Cho Moi Expressway to Bac Kan City has begun construction. When the route is completed, the travel time from Hanoi to Bac Kan City will be only about 2 hours. In addition, Bac Kan has also invested in a road from the city to Nam Cat Lake.

To serve tourism development, the planning project also calculates to build 5 new bridges across Cau River and Nam Cat Lake to connect functional areas; keep the suspension bridges for traffic and landscape creation; plan 6 boat piers and 5 parking lots.

According to the People's Committee of Bac Kan province, the approval of the content of the zoning plan for the Nam Cat Lake tourist area will be the legal basis for calling for and attracting investment, making detailed plans, establishing investment projects, managing construction investment, and effectively using resources according to regulations.

Bac Kan determined to develop Nam Cat Lake tourism not only as a destination but also as a local tourism symbol, enriching the experience for visitors and creating stable livelihoods for people in neighboring areas.
