Attending the art program were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ngo Le Van; Ambassador Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to UNESCO, along with nearly 200 delegates including Ambassadors of countries to UNESCO, leaders of French and international agencies and organizations, and a large number of Vietnamese expatriates in France.
The delegation of Bac Ninh province was led by Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Xuan Loi. Also attending were former Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Huu Quat, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Tran Thi Hang; Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Ha Sy Tiep.
Over thousands of years of building and defending the country, Vietnam has a unique historical tradition and culture, producing many outstanding celebrities. UNESCO has recognized the title of World Cultural Celebrity for typical celebrities such as: Ho Chi Minh, Nguyen Trai, Nguyen Du, Chu Van An... prestigious titles such as: City for Peace, Creative City, Global Learning City and dozens of cultural heritages. Each heritage carries within it a story that contributes to shaping the cultural identity of Vietnam.
Located at the northeastern gateway of Hanoi Capital, in the Northern key economic region, Bac Ninh province has a long-standing historical and cultural tradition, a place where folk cultural treasures converge. Bac Ninh is known as the "Kingdom of festivals" with many rich forms of folk cultural and artistic activities. Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk songs are a unique and distinctive art form among the folk performing forms of Vietnam.
On September 30, 2009, at the Intergovernmental Committee meeting under the 2003 UNESCO Convention, Quan Ho Bac Ninh folk songs were honored as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Over the past fifteen years, Bac Ninh province has carried out many activities to fulfill its commitment to UNESCO in preserving and promoting the value of the heritage, devoting many resources to introducing and promoting Quan Ho Bac Ninh folk songs to friends around the world...
Besides Quan Ho folk songs, Bac Ninh is also famous for a type of folk art called Dong Ho folk paintings, made entirely by hand and using natural materials. The unique values of this type of folk painting from the content, colors, materials, and methods of making... all reflect the soul of the countryside, the flavor of Kinh Bac, and enter the lives of the people. Currently, the craft of making Dong Ho folk paintings is receiving attention and support from all levels and sectors to preserve and promote its value. Realizing that this unique folk art form is facing the risk of fading away, the Vietnamese Government has decided to propose to include the craft of making Dong Ho folk paintings in the List of nominations for Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding for UNESCO to consider recognizing in 2025.
In the presence of Ambassadors and diplomatic agencies at UNESCO headquarters, Deputy Minister Ngo Le Van shared: Today, we are proud to introduce to you Bac Ninh province - a land that is symbolic of Vietnamese culture, the cradle of Quan Ho folk songs, a unique art form born from the knowledge, ethics and humanistic customs of the Vietnamese people. Quan Ho Bac Ninh folk songs were recognized by UNESCO as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Bac Ninh is also the homeland of Dong Ho folk paintings, which are not only artistic and rustic but also symbolize the life and work of Vietnamese people.
Speaking at the welcoming ceremony of the art performance “Vietnam - Cultural quintessence and aspirations to rise up”, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Xuan Loi sincerely thanked the presence of diplomats - who represent the cultures of the countries, hoping to receive attention and support in promoting Vietnamese culture, especially Bac Ninh culture to international friends.
“Let's build cultural bridges together, connect, spread, promote the image, traditional cultural values, and attractive investment environment of Bac Ninh province to every land and every person in the world, contributing to strengthening friendship and cooperation between countries”.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Xuan Loi emphasized: "We hope to always receive your attention and support so that by 2025, "Dong Ho folk painting" will be included in the List of intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent protection of humanity".
Ambassador Nguyen Thi Van Anh affirmed: The special art program performed by artists of Bac Ninh Quan Ho Folk Song Theater, the sophisticated traditional handicraft products directly made by artisans today are like an invitation to the international community: "Please join us on the journey to experience Vietnam, a country that is both ancient and modern, peaceful but dynamic, imbued with traditional values that is moving towards the future with the strength of its cultural foundation, the spirit of solidarity, ready to enter a new era - the era of national growth".
As Vice President of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage for the 2022-2026 term, Vietnam has always focused on the protection of intangible cultural heritage and will strengthen cooperation with member countries and other relevant parties to promote the implementation of the Convention. Ambassador Nguyen Thi Van Anh hopes that countries will continue to support other nominations of Vietnam, so that education, science and culture become the foundation and driving force for more comprehensive and sustainable social development.
Coming to the art program “Vietnam - Cultural quintessence and aspiration to rise up”, delegates enjoyed sweet and unique Bac Ninh folk songs; monochord solo performances; performances of Dong Ho folk painting, clay sculpture, calligraphy…
Within the framework of the program, Artisan Nguyen Dang Tam from Dong Ho folk painting village, Song Ho ward, Thuan Thanh town introduced and demonstrated the art of painting. The works: Herding buffaloes and playing the flute, Vinh quy bai to, Vinh hoa, Phu quy… are unique in both content and color, both simple in the spirit of the countryside and carrying profound educational and humanistic values, attracting the delegates with special love.
