The National Steering Committee on Combating IUU Fishing held its 20th meeting.

On the evening of November 4, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the 20th meeting of the National Steering Committee on Combating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU). Attending the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha - Head of the National Steering Committee on IUU and members of the Steering Committee. The meeting was connected online to 21 coastal provinces and cities across the country. At the Khanh Hoa province bridge, comrades: Nguyen Khac Toan - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Trinh Minh Hoang - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial IUU Steering Committee and leaders of departments, branches and localities attended the meeting.

At the meeting, leaders of central ministries, branches and some coastal localities reported on the results achieved and the remaining problems in implementing the tasks assigned by the Prime Minister , Head of the National Steering Committee on IUU after the 19th meeting and previous meetings. In Khanh Hoa, the province requested localities and units to strictly implement the instructions of the Prime Minister, Head of the National Steering Committee on IUU, to date, 10/12 assigned tasks have been completed, 2 tasks are being continued to be completed according to the prescribed schedule including: Issuing a policy on job conversion for fishermen who do not need to engage in fishing activities; matching and identifying fishing vessel data on the national fishing vessel data system.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that it is necessary to end IUU violations to sustainably develop the Vietnamese fisheries industry. The Prime Minister requested ministries, branches and 21 coastal localities nationwide to focus on implementing anti-IUU fishing tasks in the spirit of "6 clear" (clear people, clear work, clear time, clear responsibility, clear products, clear authority), proactively deploying and completing each task, not "beating the drum and abandoning the stick" and must identify this as a key task. By November 12, localities must thoroughly handle fishing vessels that are not qualified to operate; fishing vessels that have not installed a voyage monitoring device (VMS) and complete licensing for fishing vessels that are qualified to operate; by November 15, the marking of all fishing vessels that are qualified to operate must be completed. Localities need to strictly manage and control the activities of fishing fleets, absolutely not allowing unqualified vessels to go to sea, fishing vessels that have not installed VMS, if there are violations, they must be strictly handled; investigate and strictly handle IUU violations; urgently develop programs and plans to change jobs for fishermen. Key localities, including Khanh Hoa province, need to closely coordinate with relevant ministries and branches to well prepare the working contents with the European Commission's Inspection Delegation when the delegation comes to Vietnam to inspect the implementation of recommendations related to the IUU "Yellow Card"...
