In 2025, Ngan Truoi Lake was directly affected by three consecutive major storms, No. 5, No. 6 and No. 10, along with a period of heavy rain lasting from October 30 to November 3. The total flow into the lake during these periods reached about 339.68 million m³ of water. This figure not only reflects the severity of the natural disaster but also shows that the role of regulating and reducing floods of this multi-purpose irrigation project has been effectively and promptly promoted.

Specifically, during storm No. 5, Ngan Truoi Lake reduced the flood by about 51.98 million m³ of water. Thanks to flexible operation, the lake water level was maintained at +35.02m, corresponding to a capacity of 234.44 million m³, ensuring the safety of the project right from the first flood.
During storm No. 6, the amount of water flowing into the lake increased to 85.43 million m³, creating greater pressure on the project. However, thanks to strict operating procedures, the lake still ensures absolute safety and significantly reduces flooding in the downstream area, helping to minimize damage to property and crops for people.
In particular, during storm No. 10 - the storm with the largest flow into the lake since the beginning of the year, reaching 130.77 million m³. Facing this flood peak, thanks to the reasonably arranged flood prevention capacity and scientific calculation, Ngan Truoi Lake has significantly reduced the flood peak, successfully protecting the downstream area of Ngan Sau River - one of the vulnerable areas and directly affected by floods.
After the storms, during the heavy rains lasting from October 30 to November 3, despite 71.5 million cubic meters of water continuing to pour in, Ngan Truoi Lake still showed flexible and proactive regulation, ensuring the safety of the project and maintaining stable water levels after the flood, preparing for the next complex weather developments.

Mr. Le Van Hung - Head of the Management Group of Ngan Truoi Reservoir (Irrigation Investment and Construction Management Board 3) affirmed that the recent regulation periods are the clearest evidence that Ngan Truoi Reservoir has operated proactively, scientifically and effectively, promoting its flood prevention function well, contributing to minimizing human and property damage in the downstream area. The project contributes to protecting agricultural production, traffic and irrigation infrastructure systems, as well as stabilizing people's lives in the context of consecutive natural disasters.
Not only a simple flood control project, Ngan Truoi Lake also brings about multi-purpose comprehensive efficiency. Actively retaining a large amount of water after rains and storms has helped to significantly increase water reserves. This water source plays a vital role in serving daily life, agricultural production in the dry season, and at the same time, combined with power generation. This affirms the great value of the project in managing, exploiting and using water resources in a sustainable and effective manner.

Discussing the role of the project, Mr. Le Van Hung added that with a dam crest design elevation of 57.8m and a reservoir capacity of up to 775 million m³, Ngan Truoi Lake carries on its shoulders the dual task of storing water and regulating floods, which is extremely important for the entire downstream area. With the frequency and intensity of heavy rains like in the past few days, if the Ngan Truoi Lake project did not play the role of a "giant reservoir" to "cut floods", downstream communes such as Thuong Duc, Mai Hoa... and many other areas would certainly be deeply flooded, causing unforeseeable property damage. In addition, the effective operation of the lake has greatly reduced the pressure on the Ngan Sau River system.
According to Mr. Hung, to operate the lake most effectively, especially during the rainy season, the Management Board has developed a strict operating procedure. The unit has assigned staff to be on duty 24/24, regularly updating and reporting the water level to the lake according to the prescribed time frame. Since the beginning of the rainy season, the Management Board has made a specific plan to have a proactive and flexible operating plan at each time, ensuring absolute safety for the project and optimizing flood reduction benefits for the downstream area.

The safety that Ngan Truoi Lake brings is what people in the downstream area feel most clearly. Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - a long-time resident of Mai Hoa commune expressed: "In the past, every time we heard news of a big storm, the whole village lost sleep and had to prepare to evacuate because of fear of sudden water rise. Now that we have Ngan Truoi Lake, we feel like we have a solid support. In the recent storms, although the rain was very heavy, the floodwaters came more slowly, not as intense and fierce as before. This helps people to raise their belongings in time, protect their property and feel much more secure when facing natural disasters."
The successful regulation and reduction of nearly 340 million m³ of floodwater during recent storms and floods has affirmed the stature and value of Ngan Truoi Lake. The project is not simply a reservoir but also an important national protection project, playing a core role in natural disaster prevention, protection and sustainable socio-economic development for the downstream area.
