According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nghe An, relevant parties including Vinh International Airport and Vietnam Airlines Vinh branch are coordinating to prepare for the first flight after the repair closure period, marking the airport's official return to operation.

Currently, the Vinh airport upgrade project is being accelerated by contractors to complete on schedule. The project includes runway repair, terminal and apron upgrade, with a construction time of 180 days.
After more than 4 months of suspension for upgrading, Vinh International Airport is expected to reopen and welcome passengers in December 2025.
In package 11, CIENCO 4 Group is in charge of 500m of runway and 200m of taxiways W1, W2. The unit has completed 384m of runway, the remaining part is continuing to construct the foundation, spread crushed stone and pour concrete. In package 6, the joint venture contractor for expanding the aircraft parking lot has completed the site clearance, mobilized an additional cement drilling line to construct 50,000m of piles in 30 days.

Despite facing many difficulties due to the continuous stormy weather in the Central region in recent times, contractors still carried out construction in "3 shifts, 4 crews", arranging mobile roofs in concrete pouring areas to ensure progress and quality.
Vinh Airport was put into operation at the end of 2003, with a designed capacity of 2.75 million passengers/year, currently serving an average of 21-26 flights/day. According to the approved plan, Vinh International Airport is a level 4E airport, expected to reach 8 million passengers/year by 2030, and 14 million passengers/year by 2050.
