Race against time to stabilize studies soon
Heavy rains from October 29 to November 4 caused serious flooding affecting dozens of schools in Ha Tinh . As of this morning (November 7), the whole province still has 2 schools in the flood-prone area of Cam Binh commune, including Cam Vinh Primary School and Kindergarten, that have not been able to maintain learning.

At Cam Vinh Kindergarten, prolonged heavy rain combined with the overflow of Ke Go Lake has caused serious flooding. For the past week, the school has been submerged in water, with the deepest water level in the first floor classrooms being nearly 1 meter. In such difficult conditions, the school's staff, teachers and employees have persisted in staying in the school and classrooms, cleaning up wherever the water receded, making efforts to clean up, disinfect, rearrange desks and chairs and school supplies to soon stabilize teaching and learning.
Along with the efforts of the school, the military , police and local organizations have also joined hands to clean up the school, helping to restore a safe and clean learning environment. The school aims to complete the repair work and welcome students back by Monday morning (November 10).

Ms. Bien Thi Dien - Principal of Cam Vinh Kindergarten said: "The impact of two storms in October and the recent flood has caused serious damage to the school's facilities. Many items such as the roof, outdoor playground were damaged, the classrooms and bedrooms for 3-year-old children appeared to be in a state of severe subsidence. The subsidence on the first floor also caused the floor tiles on the second floor to peel off, causing insecurity and greatly affecting the teaching and living activities of teachers and students in the school."
“Through a field survey, the cost needed to fix and repair damaged items is estimated at more than 1 billion VND. The damage caused by natural disasters is too great, mobilizing social resources from parents is very difficult. The school hopes to receive attention and support from all levels and sectors to quickly overcome the consequences and stabilize teaching and learning,” Ms. Dien shared.

At Dai Thanh Secondary School (Cam Binh Commune), after many efforts to clean and sanitize, the school has now restored teaching and learning routines. However, the damage to facilities still requires time and resources to repair. Mr. Ha Van Sang - Principal of the school, said: "Two consecutive storms in October caused the corrugated iron roofs of 3 school buildings to be blown off. The school still owes money to repair the roof, but the recent flood also destroyed more than 100m of the surrounding wall. The classrooms have been submerged in water for a long time, causing the walls to peel and seriously deteriorate, requiring time and money to repair."
Need to join hands to overcome the consequences of storms and floods
Since the beginning of October, consecutive storms and floods have severely affected many schools in Ha Tinh province. According to statistics from the education sector, storms No. 5 and No. 10 have caused serious damage to most educational facilities in the province. Many schools had their roofs blown off, classrooms, functional rooms with teaching equipment, and teachers' offices damaged; many trees, fences, roofs, garages, windows, school gates, and outdoor boards were broken. The total damage from the two storms is estimated at nearly 600 billion VND.

Joining hands to support schools to stabilize teaching and learning, recently, agencies and businesses have donated nearly 30,500 books to students in flood-affected areas along with many practical gifts. At the same time, local authorities have also surveyed and promptly provided financial support to help schools promptly overcome the consequences, repair damaged items, re-roof classrooms, canopies, renovate playgrounds, practice grounds, and clean classrooms. Up to now, at educational institutions, teaching and learning activities have basically returned to normal.
However, many schools in Ha Tinh are still facing many difficulties. Mobilizing social resources from parents and people has encountered many obstacles due to the impact of economic life after the natural disaster. Currently, the Department of Education and Training has proposed the province to support funding to help educational institutions promptly overcome the consequences, repair facilities, and create favorable conditions for teaching and learning.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Cuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ha Tinh said: "The impact of natural disasters on schools is very large. The education sector has reported the actual damage, and hopes that schools will continue to receive cooperation and support from all levels, sectors and the whole society to quickly overcome the consequences, stabilize teaching and ensure safety during the flood season."
The road to overcoming the consequences of the storm is still full of difficulties, but with the efforts of schools, the attention of local authorities and the sharing hearts of the community, we believe that after the storm, the sky will clear up and schools will be spacious again.
