The circulation of storm No. 10 and prolonged heavy rains have caused damage to many winter crop production areas in Dong Tien commune. To ensure production progress and maintain the supply of vegetables and fruits to the market, households continuously monitor the weather and proactively take measures to "save" crops after heavy rains.

According to the people, most of the vegetable areas such as radishes, carrots, sweet potatoes, potatoes... were planted 2-4 weeks ago. Currently, the plants have developed 3-5 leaves, however, heavy rains have caused many plants to be crushed and have rotten roots. To improve the soil and maintain ventilation, households are focusing on cultivating beds, fertilizing, and using biological products to prevent pests and diseases caused by prolonged rain and humidity such as: root rot, downy mildew, wilt...

Ms. Tran Thi Tan (Bac Van village, Dong Tien commune) said: " My family planted more than 6 sao of vegetables, including radishes, potatoes, carrots... planted 15 days ago. Since the beginning of the season, I have had to replant twice and plow the soil three times. This year, the rain has been prolonged, all production activities are more difficult and arduous, but to ensure the progress of the winter crop, we still try to stick to the fields, hoping to have results by the end of the season ."

In the 2025 winter crop, Dong Tien commune strives to plant 196 hectares of crops, including 130 hectares of vegetables, tubers and fruits; 63 hectares of sweet potatoes; 3 hectares of corn for grain and about more than 7,200 m2 of net houses and greenhouses, concentrated in the villages: Bac Van, Dong Khanh, Hong Dinh, Bac Dinh... " To ensure the progress of production and development of key crops in the area, the local government has proactively instructed people to closely follow the weather situation, strengthen solutions before, during and after the rain, to protect crops " - Mr. Le Dinh Khanh - Deputy Head of Economic Department, Dong Tien Commune People's Committee informed.

Mr. Tran Tho Thong (Tho village, Dong Kinh commune) said: " If we take good care and minimize the damage caused by heavy rain, the entire 2 sao of cucumber and cauliflower area can be harvested and sold on the 15th day of the 10th lunar month. After that, we will continue to grow short-term crops to serve the Lunar New Year market ."

In Yen Hoa commune, many areas of winter vegetables that had just been planted were also eroded by heavy rain. The implementation of solutions when the weather cleared was urgently carried out by the people, hoping to maintain the rhythm of winter crop production.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Tho, a member of Hoang Chu General Production and Service Cooperative (Dai Hoa village, Yen Hoa commune) said: " Last year at this time, many radish areas had begun to be harvested and sold to the market. However, this year, heavy rains caused damage, I had to replant twice, with a total cost of about 60 million VND. Although it was hard, I tried to "take the work for profit", actively fertilized, hoping that the weather would be favorable so I could sell it in the next few weeks ."

" This winter crop, Yen Hoa commune plans to produce 334 hectares of various vegetables, of which 163 hectares have been produced, reaching nearly 49% of the plan. However, heavy rains have damaged 70 hectares, including 4 hectares of corn, 61 hectares of vegetables and 5 hectares of sweet potatoes. The proactiveness and positivity of the people in reproducing the affected areas has contributed to ensuring market supply, increasing people's income and contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality " - Ms. Dang Thi Ngoc, Head of the Economic Department, Yen Hoa Commune People's Committee informed.

Many households said that green vegetables are currently scarce on the market and prices are high, so people are speeding up production in the hope of quickly having a supply to serve the market and at the same time increasing income.

In the 2025 winter crop, the whole province aims to produce 5,060 hectares of vegetables, tubers, and fruits. However, due to many unfavorable weather developments, localities have only been able to plant over 2,100 hectares.

Despite facing many difficulties, local farmers have been proactive and quickly overcome damage and rebuild production activities after heavy rains. Professional sectors continue to guide localities and people to strengthen measures to protect winter crops that have been produced; monitor weather conditions to deploy production within the time frame, focusing on planting crops such as sweet potatoes, corn, vegetables of all kinds... contributing to increasing income and ensuring supply for the year-end market.
