April 13, 2025 marks the 61-year journey of establishment, growth and dedication of Ha Giang Newspaper. From the simple news lines in the early days of its establishment to an electronic newsroom, multi-platform, professional and modern press products like today, Ha Giang Newspaper still retains its noble mission: Leading the way of thinking, spreading faith, serving the Fatherland and serving the People.
From the important decision of the provincial Party Committee and government, in 1951, Tin Ha Giang newspaper was born. This was the first publication that laid the foundation for the birth of Ha Giang Newspaper later. The first issues were published on 30x42 cm paper, including 2 pages, published 2 times/month, later increased to 3 times. Despite many difficult conditions, for more than a decade (1951 to April 1964), Tin Ha Giang newspaper closely followed the breath of reality, vividly reflected the resistance life, spread the patriotic emulation movement; became a sharp weapon on the Party's ideological front, contributing to encouraging fighting spirit, fostering will and building a strong rear in the difficult years of the great resistance war.
To meet the requirements of the revolutionary transformation period, on April 13, 1964, the Provincial Party Committee met and unanimously issued Resolution 11 on upgrading Tin Ha Giang to Ha Giang Newspaper. This was an important turning point in propaganda work, affirming the role and position of revolutionary journalism on the ideological and cultural front. At the same time, it became a historical milestone in the founding of Ha Giang Newspaper and the launch of its first issue.
If in 1964, under difficult conditions, the Editorial Board only published 4 issues/month with a modest circulation of 700 copies/issue, now, Ha Giang Newspaper regularly publishes 5 issues/week with a circulation of up to more than 9,000 copies/issue. In particular, in 2020, Ha Giang Newspaper invested in color printing on pages 1 and 4, creating a more impressive new look instead of 2 colors black and white as before. Along with strong growth in quantity, Ha Giang Newspaper constantly improves the quality of content, modern presentation, rich in identity; affirming the role of the official information channel, a reliable forum of the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in the province.
In 2021, in the context of general difficulties due to the negative impact of the global Covid-19 pandemic, there was a time when many specialized departments such as Secretary - Publishing, Reporters were forced to practice social distancing because more than half of the members in the department had Covid-19. However, it was during that difficult time that Ha Giang Newspaper demonstrated a strong spirit of overcoming difficulties by effectively operating the Electronic Newsroom model in a convergent direction, based on the application of modern information technology. If the traditional newsroom model was still maintained, the information flow could very well be interrupted by physical barriers during the period of social distancing. But thanks to the Electronic Newsroom, a virtual convergence workspace was established, erasing geographical distances, connecting reporters, editors, and editorial leaders in the same single working "window". Here, everyone can contribute ideas, discuss news, articles, and photos flexibly and immediately. Functional departments can easily monitor the entire content approval process; the Editorial Board can review and direct immediately, ensuring the information publishing process takes place regularly, accurately and promptly.
Ha Giang, the sacred land at the northernmost point of the Fatherland , is home to 19 ethnic groups living together; of which, ethnic minorities account for 87.7% of the province's population. This reality shows cultural diversity but also poses very specific requirements for communication work, especially journalism. Therefore, in addition to regular printed publications, Ha Giang Newspaper has made efforts to bring information closer to people in remote, isolated and extremely disadvantaged areas through the publication of the Northernmost Ha Giang Newspaper, published once a month.

The birth of the Northernmost Ha Giang Newspaper has become a unique press product, bearing a strong mark for the community. Reader Ban Ta Chieu, Head of Chien Thang Village, Ho Thau Commune (Hoang Su Phi) shared: This publication is only 4 pages long but is meticulously selected, printed in beautiful color, with few words and many pictures, like telling a story with pictures, so that the elderly with little knowledge can understand, and children are also interested in reading. This is not simply a newspaper but a "bridge" of love, the voice from the village echoes to the center, a message from the Party and the government to each person in the highlands.
In 2007, the Ha Giang Newspaper website was officially launched to readers on the Internet platform with the domain name www.bao hagiang.vn . This is not only a milestone affirming the strong participation of Ha Giang Newspaper in the digital media trend but also a big step forward in the journey of promoting the image, people, and cultural identity of Ha Giang to compatriots nationwide, overseas Vietnamese and international friends.
In particular, since being officially licensed by the Ministry of Information and Communications to operate as an electronic newspaper on November 8, 2019, Ha Giang Electronic Newspaper has constantly innovated and created to keep up with the demands of modern media. The launch of the smartphone interface has significantly expanded the ability to access information for readers, especially young people, a force that is increasingly influential in cyberspace.
A highlight in the transformation process of Ha Giang Electronic Newspaper is the proactive approach and application of multimedia journalism, from producing and embedding television and radio content into news and articles; building modern Emagazine, Infographic, Story-style journalism works, to applying AI technology to read news and articles to serve the diverse needs of readers. Thereby, spreading a new spirit of journalism, not only conveying information but also creating experiences for readers, affirming the leading role, spreading the humanistic and cultural values of the land at the northernmost tip of the Fatherland.
In addition to maintaining the effectiveness of the TV section with many attractive information contents; in December 2019, Ha Giang Online Newspaper continued to mark an important step forward when it first launched the radio program "Ha Giang Online Newspaper" with a duration of 3 programs per week. Thereby, it not only expanded the public access channel but also contributed to diversifying the form of expression, increasing the attractiveness and propaganda effectiveness of Ha Giang Online Newspaper in the digital age.
In particular, with the attention of the provincial Party Committee and government, Ha Giang Electronic Newspaper has been equipped with modern technical means such as: specialized cameras, flycams, video editing equipment, and a modern studio, creating conditions for the production of online radio and television programs in a professional and systematic manner. This not only improves labor productivity and speeds up news reporting, but also significantly improves the quality of content and user experience, creating favorable conditions for Ha Giang Newspaper to build a modern and unique electronic press brand.
Following the above results, in 2024, Ha Giang Electronic Newspaper launched an English version. This is a strategic step that not only helps to improve propaganda effectiveness but also expands the influence of local press, enhancing the brand of Ha Giang province on the national and international map. The presence of Ha Giang Newspaper on cyberspace shows a strong transformation, seizing opportunities from the 4.0 industrial revolution to better serve political tasks, affirming the role and position of the provincial Party Committee, the voice of the Party Committee, the government and the people of all ethnic groups in the province. At the same time, spreading positive and authentic information about a Ha Giang that is renewing every day to millions of hearts that love their homeland and country.
Ms. Vu Thi Thu shared: As a child of Ha Giang living in Hanoi, I always want to connect with my hometown. Therefore, Ha Giang Electronic Newspaper has become a reliable companion, helping me to update timely and authentic information about the land and people in the northernmost part of the country. From the content to the form of expression of Ha Giang Electronic Newspaper, it shows a spirit of dedication, creative thinking, and quick adaptation to the flow of digital media. In particular, Ha Giang Newspaper's Fanpage with more than 44,000 followers is a clear demonstration of modern media thinking, focusing on the public, using multiple platforms as a lever to spread positive and humane information values.
Although not formally trained in filming, editing, hosting or designing electronic newspapers, the reporters, editors and technicians of Ha Giang Electronic Newspaper have not hesitated to step out of their comfort zone to keep up with modern journalism trends. From people who were only familiar with writing, they have learned to film, edit, host, design graphics, make clips, produce Emagazine, Infographic, Story... with a spirit of learning and responsibility. Without any schooling, no curriculum, only with a passion for journalism and a spirit of innovation, that team has gradually mastered technology, mastered the way of telling stories with images, sounds and graphics, helping Ha Giang Electronic Newspaper to rise strongly in the digital media space.
From only 8 staff in the early days of its establishment, Ha Giang Newspaper now has over 30 staff, reporters, editors, and employees working in 5 specialized departments and nearly 20 reporters who are contract collaborators.
Along with the organizational growth, the Party Cell and the Editorial Board of Ha Giang Newspaper always focus on training and improving the professional qualifications, skills and political theory of the staff, reporters and editors. This is the right direction, because journalism in the digital age not only requires professional skills but also requires a strong political stance, clear professional ethics and creative thinking to adapt flexibly to the new media environment. This comprehensive training has helped the team of journalists of Ha Giang Newspaper gradually mature, become professional, and confident in processing information, reflecting correctly - accurately - well - promptly the issues of political, economic, cultural and social life of the province.

In just the past 3 years, Ha Giang Newspaper has continuously affirmed its position on the national press map with a series of prestigious awards. Notable ones include: C Prize of the 8th National Press Award on Party Building (named Golden Hammer and Sickle) in 2023; Encouragement Prize of the 1st National Press Award on the National Assembly and People's Council (Dien Hong Award) in 2022 and C Prize of the 2nd Dien Hong Award in 2023; Encouragement Prize of the National Press Award on Youth Union work and youth and children's movements in 2023; B Prize of the National Press Award on Gender Equality in 2024; Encouragement Prize of the 5th Press Award on the Transport Industry in 2023 - 2024; Ha Giang Newspaper was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the National Assembly for its outstanding achievements in participating in the 2nd Dien Hong Award.

With 61 years of continuous innovation and development, Ha Giang Newspaper has affirmed its position as the mouthpiece of the Provincial Party Committee, a trusted forum for the people of all ethnic groups in the northernmost borderland of the Fatherland.
