Established in 1958, Nam Dinh Provincial Museum has undergone many upgrades and expansions. By 2021, the Provincial Museum was ranked as Grade I by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, affirming its position in the Vietnamese museum system. Currently, it is preserving about 25,000 valuable artifacts. Of which, more than 2,000 typical artifacts have been selected for permanent display, systematically recreating the historical and cultural process of Nam Dinh land. The museum's display system consists of two parts: interior and exterior. The exterior harmoniously combines gardens, trees, lawns and large artifacts such as ancient architectural pieces, mascot statues, archaeological artifacts, weapons and military equipment used in the resistance war against the US. In particular, within the museum grounds is the Flagpole relic - an important construction of the Nguyen Dynasty's Southern Citadel, ranked as a national monument. The interior introduces the historical and social process of Nam Dinh province in chronological order from prehistoric, early historical, Ly - Tran dynasties to the resistance war against French colonialism and American imperialism. Besides, there are typical topics such as: "The Vietnamese belief in worshipping the Mother Goddess of the Three Palaces - Identity and value", "Uncle Ho with the Party Committee and people of Nam Dinh", "The relics that go through the years"...

In order to improve the experience of visitors, especially students, the Provincial Museum focuses on applying technology in displaying and introducing artifacts. The website "baotangtinhnamdinh.vn" was born, integrating 3D virtual tour technology. Just at home, visitors can explore the entire space, see each artifact up close. At the museum, a 3D artifact information lookup machine is placed next to the artifact, helping visitors easily learn details with just a few simple steps. Digital transformation helps to better preserve documents and expand accessibility, raising public awareness of historical values. Implementing the Project "Promoting lifelong learning activities in libraries, museums, cultural houses, and clubs", many schools in the province have actively coordinated with the Nam Dinh Provincial Museum to organize useful extracurricular programs for students.
