The man created deepfake pornographic videos using a program he developed himself using artificial intelligence (AI) and earned 3.83 million won ($2,837) by selling them between January and March 2024.
Police also arrested a Chinese man in his 30s for allegedly distributing 14,526 pornographic videos, including 20 deepfake videos impersonating famous female figures, while operating an illegal porn website from June 2023 to September 2024.
The man earned 140 million won ($100,000) from promoting online gambling and other illegal content.
Police plan to hand the man over to prosecutors this week and pursue accomplices in China, as well as those who viewed the illegal content online.
