Reviewing the hospital's tradition, Dr. Diep Bao Tuan, Director of the City Oncology Hospital, said that over the past four decades, the unit has received and treated millions of patients. On average, each year, the hospital receives more than 880,000 examinations, nearly 55,000 inpatient treatments, more than 375,000 outpatient treatments, nearly 39,000 surgeries, 180,000 radiotherapy treatments, and 320,000 chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy treatments.

The year 2024 marks a strong step forward in expertise when the Hospital deploys a series of new techniques such as stem cell transplantation to treat hematological cancers, hepatic embolization to treat liver cancer, a genetic counseling clinic and a clinical trial unit.

In addition, the hospital proactively strengthens international cooperation with prestigious medical centers such as the Toulouse Cancer Institute (France), the Wexner Center at Ohio University (USA), the National Cancer Institute of Japan, Kaohsiung University (Taiwan - China), Singapore Cancer Institute... These programs not only help access advanced technology but also create a foundation for sustainable academic development, scientific research and technology transfer.

A major step forward in the development process is the opening of the second facility in Thu Duc city with a scale of 1,000 beds, equipped with the most modern and synchronous facilities in the region. This is a key project that contributes to reducing the load on the first facility in Binh Thanh district, while creating more favorable conditions for patients in the eastern region as well as neighboring localities.

Dr. Diep Bao Tuan emphasized: “The hospital will continuously improve and develop to better meet the healthcare needs of patients. The biggest aspiration is to turn Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital into the leading cancer center in Southeast Asia, as directed by the city leaders and the Department of Health.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Dung highly appreciated the Oncology Hospital for pioneering the implementation of regional linkage strategy, providing professional support to satellite hospitals in many southern localities, contributing to effectively reducing the workload and improving the quality of patient care right at the facility.

In the context that the city is implementing the Project "Developing the health system to become a regional health care center in ASEAN from now until 2030 and the following years", Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Dung suggested that the Hospital continue to develop specialized technical centers, strongly apply modern techniques, improve the quality of medical examination and treatment towards internationalization and strengthen international cooperation.

The hospital is not only a place for treatment but also needs to become an academic center, a leading knowledge transfer center in the field of cancer, contributing to affirming the position of the city's healthcare on the regional medical map.

In the coming time, the Hospital will continue to promote its leading role in scientific research, innovation, digital transformation and aim to build a comprehensive, effective, modern and humane cancer healthcare system, effectively implementing the development orientation of the Party and State.
