The historical milestone of May 15, 1985 created a leading center specializing in cancer: merging 3 units: Ho Chi Minh City Cancer Hospital, Vietnam Cancer Institute and Oncology Department of Binh Dan Hospital to become Ho Chi Minh City Cancer Center - the predecessor of today's Ho Chi Minh City Cancer Hospital.
The period from 1985 to 1995 was the time when the Oncology Center persevered to overcome difficulties in the general context of the country, built a foundation, and met the treatment needs of the people.
From 1995 to 2002, it was a period of transformation in building a specialized oncology center, expanding the scope of treatment facilities, implementing advanced techniques, and a strong cancer prevention program. This was also the period of establishing the position of a specialized oncology center of the city and the southern region. In August 2002, the center changed its name to Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital until today.
The next 20 years were the period when the hospital affirmed its brand and reputation with important achievements, promoting international cooperation. Effectively coordinating multimodal treatment, the hospital is a place where treatment methods such as radiation - chemotherapy - surgery - targeted therapy converge with technical facilities on par with the region and the world.
From 2020 to now, the hospital has continuously developed and grown. January 23, 2023 marks the time when the entire Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, Facility 2 (Thu Duc City) fully operates treatment methods, spacious facilities, and modern equipment. This is a joy not only for the Ho Chi Minh City health sector but also for hundreds of thousands of cancer patients in the southern provinces.
Towards the development period of 2025-2030, Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital will maintain its role as the leading oncology hospital in Vietnam and develop into a specialized treatment center in the ASEAN region. The hospital's first facility in Binh Thanh District will be built and developed into a high-tech health examination and disease screening center, meeting the increasing needs of the community.
The hospital’s tireless efforts not only contribute to improving the quality of health care for the people, but also affirm its commitment to serving and caring for patients in the best possible way. And especially important, is the responsibility to maintain the brand and reputation that generations of doctors have built over the past 40 years.
