According to information at the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding of the cooperation program "For Vietnamese Eyes", in Vietnam, there are about 7 million people aged 30-69 suffering from diabetes. Notably, diabetic retinopathy is one of the leading causes of blindness in people of working age.
The program "For Vietnamese Eyes" evaluates the cooperation between the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health , Central Eye Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital and Roche Pharma Vietnam Company Limited to build a comprehensive management model for patients with diabetic eye diseases.

The program received cooperation and support from the leading eye hospital.
Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Ngoc Dong, Director of the Central Eye Hospital, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Ophthalmological Association, emphasized that the Central Eye Hospital is committed to devoting the highest resources and expertise to successfully build this comprehensive management model through the cooperation program "For Vietnamese Eyes", especially in building and perfecting professional guidelines and proposing related policies.
Dr. Le Anh Tuan, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital, also said that the hospital will participate in building a system for screening and early detection of retinal diseases for diabetic patients who are being managed at the frontline. Thereby, patients will be cared for, monitored and treated promptly, while helping to reduce the burden on specialized hospitals.
At the signing ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Trong Khoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health, expressed his belief that this model not only helps improve the quality of treatment for patients but is also an important step forward for the development of ophthalmology in public hospitals, especially at the provincial level. The application of new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) in early detection is a strategic direction that the health sector will actively promote.
