The Prime Minister approved the Memorandum of Understanding on Vietnam-Singapore rice trade cooperation.
Specifically, the Decision approves the content of the Memorandum of Understanding on rice trade cooperation between the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Government of the Republic of Singapore (referred to as the Memorandum).
The Prime Minister authorized the Minister of Industry and Trade to sign the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of the Government of Vietnam with the authorized representative of the Republic of Singapore. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs shall carry out the authorization procedures as prescribed.
This Decision comes into force from the date of signing (October 25, 2025).
The Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore said that Vietnam's rice export turnover to Singapore has grown steadily in recent years. According to statistics from the Singapore Enterprise Authority, Vietnam is currently the third largest rice supplier to Singapore, after India and Thailand. Notably, in the first 6 months of 2024, Vietnam was the largest rice exporter to the Singapore market. This shows that the supply potential and quality of Vietnamese rice meet the needs and strict standards of Singapore.
In the coming time, in the context of the world facing many fluctuations affecting the economy, global food security can be an opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to promote exports. Vietnamese enterprises need to focus on product promotion activities, improve quality and design, as well as take advantage of Singapore's role as a transit point to export to other countries.
