Vietnam's top billiards player Bao Phuong Vinh showed a steady mentality, thereby winning a dramatic victory in round 16 to advance to the quarter-finals of the 3-cushion carom billiards tournament of the Phuc Thinh Cup 2025.

On October 24, the 2025 Phuc Thinh Cup 3-cushion carom billiards tournament began in the final round, witnessing the debut of Vietnamese players such as Bao Phuong Vinh, Dao Van Ly, Ly The Vinh, Nguyen Nhat Hoa, Nguyen Tran Thanh Tao... In which, the focus was on the knockout matches for a place in the quarterfinals taking place on the same evening. The match that received the most attention was the competition between 2023 world champion Bao Phuong Vinh and veteran player Nguyen Nhat Hoa.

At the crucial moment of the match, Bao Phuong Vinh showed his mettle with a 3-point shot, thereby winning the final score 40-37, after 23 turns. Previously, in the group stage match that took place on the same day, Bao Phuong Vinh had a smooth start, defeating Vo Cao Thang. However, in the second match, he lost narrowly to Huynh Le Truong Hung by 1 point, 34-35. In the play-off match of the loser's bracket that decided the ticket to the next round, the former world champion impressively defeated Lam Chan Vi with a score of 35-12 after 12 rounds, "squeezing through the narrow door" and moving on to the knockout round. Phuong Vinh's efficiency of 2,917 points/round (in the match against Chan Vi) helped the Binh Duong -born player temporarily lead the "best game" award (with the highest scoring efficiency) in the final round.

Van Ly also advanced by overcoming the loser's bracket play-off, when he defeated "veteran" Ly The Vinh (35-17, after 21 rounds). Dinh Quang Hai also entered the quarter-finals, when he defeated Ngo Le Duy 40-22. He also temporarily led the "excellent series" category in the final round with a 13-point streak. Nguyen Tran Thanh Tao defeated qualifying round champion Pham Quoc Thuan.

The remaining quarter-final spots belong to Nguyen Hoan Tat, Dinh Duy Tuan, Tran Dinh Tam and Cao Phan Triet Luan.

On October 25, the tournament will take place in the quarter-finals (from 9:30), semi-finals (from 12:00) and finals (14:30). The quarter-final matches include: Bao Phuong Vinh vs. Dinh Duy Tuan, Nguyen Hoan Tat vs. Dinh Quang Hai, Cao Phan Triet Luan vs. Tran Dinh Tam, Nguyen Tran Thanh Tao vs. Dao Van Ly.
