Binh Dinh solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the 300-day regrouping to the North.

Attending the ceremony were comrades: Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission; Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Vice President.

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Secretary of Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee Ho Quoc Dung said that with its important strategic position as the gateway connecting the South Central and Central Highlands regions, Quy Nhon Port, Binh Dinh province was chosen by the Party Central Committee and Uncle Ho as one of the main areas with 300 days to gather and transfer troops, cadres, students and people from the Central and Central Highlands regions to the North.

Over the past 300 historic days, under the leadership of the Party Central Committee, the Inter-Zone Committee of Zone V, the Party Committee and people of Binh Dinh have united, unanimously overcome many difficulties and challenges, organized the reception, assistance, and farewell of more than 20,000 cadres, soldiers, people, and students from provinces and cities in the region to the North according to plan, ensuring safety.

"On May 16, 1955, the blue sea and sky of Quy Nhon proudly parted the waves to see off the beloved children of the Central Highlands homeland on the last ship leaving Quy Nhon port, officially ending the 300-day journey of gathering and transferring troops in Quy Nhon. It was also the day the Party Committee and people of Binh Dinh fully fulfilled their historical responsibility to the Party, to Uncle Ho, and to the nation," the Secretary of Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee shared.

According to him, the 300-day event of assembling and transferring troops to the North in Quy Nhon in particular and in the South in general was not only a troop transfer to ensure compliance with the Geneva Agreement but also a long-term vision and plan of the Party Central Committee and Uncle Ho in training and fostering cadres and soldiers, to both contribute to the cause of building socialism in the North and prepare forces for the struggle to liberate the South and rebuild the country after the war. It was also an invaluable lesson about "the Party's will, the people's heart", about the shining symbol of the spirit of great solidarity and affirmed the truth "Vietnam is one, the Vietnamese people are one. Rivers may dry up, mountains may wear away, but that truth will never change.

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, warmly commended, acknowledged and congratulated the outstanding results and achievements that the Party Committee, government and people of Binh Dinh province have achieved over the past 70 years, since the event of cadres, soldiers, compatriots and students from the South regrouping to the North in Quy Nhon.

To continue to promote the strength of historical traditions, the spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement, and the strength of the great national unity bloc, and to strongly promote the great historical significance of the event of regrouping to the North, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia suggested that the Party Committee, government and people of Binh Dinh province and the provinces of the former Inter-Zone V must continue to strengthen the cooperative relationship, connect more closely and effectively. Continue to better carry out the work of "Repaying gratitude", "When drinking water, remember its source", organize activities to visit, meet, show gratitude and honor policy families, relatives of cadres, soldiers, compatriots and students from the South who regrouped to the North.

Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia suggested that the Party Committee, government and people of Binh Dinh province need to focus on thoroughly grasping and drastically and synchronously implementing the Central Government's policy on rearranging and reorganizing administrative units at all levels and building a 2-level local government organization model; especially the policy of merging provinces, opening up development opportunities in the future, making the new province an attractive investment destination for large domestic and foreign enterprises and a new economic center of the Central - Central Highlands region.

At the ceremony, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia and Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan presented 25 documents and souvenirs to relatives of cadres and soldiers who gathered in the North and carried out the mission of going to B during the resistance war against the US to save the country.

Accordingly, from the end of 1959, a group of cadres and soldiers from the North secretly crossed the Truong Son mountain range to the South to directly fight or serve in the fight to liberate the South and unify the country, including cadres and soldiers from the South who gathered in the North according to the Geneva Agreement in 1954. They were nicknamed "going to B".

On the day of departure to the South, cadres going to B must leave all their belongings, luggage, belongings, items, and documents to the Government Unification Committee for management. Each file and souvenir is a piece of memory, a part of the youth of cadres going to B during the heroic historical period of the nation.

Also at the program, Binh Dinh province was honored to receive the National Monument Ranking Certificate for the relic "Quy Nhon Port - the 300-day point of troop transfer to the North".

In 2004, the province built a monument symbolizing the location where troops were regrouped to the North in Quy Nhon. The project was ranked as a provincial relic in 2007; at the same time, it built a Monument to Regroup to the North with the theme "Leaving to Protect the Fatherland".
