The People's Committee of Binh Duong province has just sent a document to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, proposing a plan to share the use of Long Binh depot, Thu Duc City in the first phase of metro line No. 1 (Binh Duong New City - Suoi Tien) when it comes into operation in the first phase.
In a document sent to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Binh Duong province said that the locality is preparing and completing a pre-feasibility study report for the metro line No. 1 project from Binh Duong New City to Suoi Tien, Ho Chi Minh City.
This metro line is expected to start at station S1 (Hoa Phu ward, Thu Dau Mot city) and end at Suoi Tien bus station, Thu Duc city to connect with metro line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) of Ho Chi Minh City.
The total length of the route is 32.4 km, of which the main route is more than 29 km long, the connecting section to the depot is 3.42 km long. The project passes through 4 cities: Thu Dau Mot, Tan Uyen, Thuan An and Di An with a total of 19 stations and a depot located in Phu Chanh ward, Tan Uyen city.
Preliminary total investment of the whole project is estimated at 64,370 billion VND.

In the first phase, Binh Duong will invest in the 29 km long main line, with 17 stations, with a total investment of 56,301 billion VND. The 3.42 km connecting section to the depot and the depot in Tan Uyen City will be implemented in the next phase.
According to the plan of Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee, the project will start construction in 2027 and be completed and put into operation from 2031.
To ensure the project's operational efficiency, Binh Duong province proposed to use the Long Binh depot currently operating on route 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) of Ho Chi Minh City for joint operation in the first phase.
Because, Long Binh depot has an area of 26 hectares, of which 20 hectares have been built within the framework of metro line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien), with 30 train tracks. Currently, Ho Chi Minh City operates 17 trains, while Binh Duong plans to operate 10 trains in the first phase.
The sharing of the depot was discussed by Binh Duong with the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board at the working session on March 12, 2025, and the design consultants also agreed on the plan to share the Long Binh depot to serve the two metro lines of the two localities.
Based on the proposals of the consulting unit and actual needs, Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee proposed that Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee agree on the shared use of Long Binh depot in the first phase.
When the number of trains of both routes exceeds the operating capacity of Long Binh depot with a capacity of 30 trains, Binh Duong province will invest in a new depot in Phu Chanh ward, Tan Uyen city to meet operating needs.
