BMW says the next-generation iX3 will debut next year, with a large 4695-cell battery, a range of more than 900 km (560 miles) in CLTC standard, and the ability to fast-charge an additional 400 km in 10 minutes. The information was announced on November 21 at the Guangzhou Auto Show, along with an 800V high-voltage platform and a self-developed silicon carbide inverter to improve charging and operating efficiency.

4695 cylindrical battery: the technological heart of the new iX3
At the heart of the new iX3 is a large 46 mm diameter cylindrical battery (4695) developed by BMW. The anode uses a high nickel alloy with a cylindrical steel shell to increase energy density and stabilize the nickel content; the cathode uses silicon-carbon material combined with a customized electrolyte solution to extend the service life. Compared to the previous cubic battery, BMW says the new generation's energy density has increased by about 20%.
The battery is integrated into the body structure, eliminating modules, which optimizes space and contributes to a long operating range. According to the announcement, the new iX3 reaches more than 900 km according to CLTC standards for a full charge.
800V fast charger and silicon carbide inverter
The 800V high-voltage platform and the in-house developed silicon carbide inverter are the two key pieces in BMW's new electric powertrain. The system promises to significantly improve charging efficiency and driving performance.
In terms of charging speed, in just 10 minutes, the car can be charged enough for a distance of about 400 km. Charging time to 80% is 21 minutes, according to information released by BMW.
Space and safety: built-in battery, steel housing, bottom drain valve
The battery design is integrated into the vehicle body, creating a spacious interior while also contributing to optimal weight distribution. BMW emphasizes the safety of the new battery pack, with a cylindrical steel casing and an anti-explosion valve located at the bottom of the cell to control pressure when necessary.
Cockpit: 4K display, convenient use with polarized sunglasses
BMW introduced a 4K projection area on the dashboard with nano-coated glass. According to the company, this display can be used normally even when the user is wearing polarized sunglasses, improving convenience in many lighting conditions.
Driving assistance by BMW in partnership with Momenta
The control and driving assistance system on the new generation iX3 was developed jointly by BMW and Momenta. The team conducted field tests in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang and Nanjing. In the future, this solution will be applied to many models, including the new generation BMW iX3 produced in China.
