Ministry of Industry and Trade implements adjustment of Power Plan VIII

With the view that electricity is an important infrastructure sector, electricity development must be one step ahead to create a foundation to promote rapid and sustainable national development, build an independent and self-reliant economy , improve people's lives... On April 15, 2025, the Government issued Decision No. 768/QD-TTg on adjusting the VIII Power Plan.

According to the Decision, the development principle is based on optimizing power source factors; the State focuses on investment and encourages economic sectors to participate; electricity development must closely follow the development trend of science and technology , especially renewable energy and new energy.

Objective: To ensure national energy security and meet socio-economic development goals. By 2030, electricity production and import will reach about 560.4-624.6 billion kWh; the target for 2050 is about 1,360.1-1,511.1 billion kWh. By 2030, 50% of office buildings and 50% of houses will use self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power...

Implementing the Government's Decision, in Quang Ninh , the province has directed the Department of Industry and Trade to be the focal point, coordinating with relevant departments, branches, localities and units to thoroughly grasp and fully implement the directive contents. At the same time, update and review related contents, power grid projects in the process of adjusting the Planning; adjust land use plans, announce the list of projects attracting investment in power production as a basis for implementing power projects...

Concluding the meeting, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized: Implementing the Government's Decision, the Ministry's leaders have agreed with localities and relevant units to promptly review and adjust planning and plans, in accordance with the content and scale of increased allocation according to the planning; speed up the progress of reviewing, proposing, submitting to the Government to supplement and approve new power projects.

With the spirit of urgency of “running and queuing at the same time”, he proposed to promptly deploy and create a legal corridor to effectively implement the 8th Power Plan; speed up the progress of ongoing power projects; continue to review, amend and supplement relevant mechanisms and policies to attract investment and mobilize social resources for power development. In particular, prioritize the development of renewable energy and new energy to ensure synchronization; build and adjust the price framework to closely follow market developments.

The energy sector needs to proactively and actively ensure the supply of raw materials, closely coordinate with the electricity sector, and meet the needs of production and electricity supply. Prioritize the removal of difficulties and obstacles in the implementation process...
