The incident was discovered by neighbors when they saw the emaciated boy wandering around the neighborhood looking for food at a grocery store. When he arrived at the police station, the poor boy begged people not to take him back home.
Tyler and Krista Schindley starved their 10-year-old son for days.
Police said the child was intentionally starved by his parents and weighed just over 35 pounds, the same weight as a 4-year-old. "It's horrible, this child was intentionally starved by his parents, if he hadn't been discovered he would have died, " said Marie Broder, a Griffin County attorney.
According to court documents, Tyler and Krista Schindley locked their son in a bedroom and left him home alone for long periods of time. The boy was not allowed to eat, was not exposed to light, and was not supported by adults or anyone else.
The two were accused of not allowing their 10-year-old son to use hot water, toilet paper, interact with people, look outside, and even beat him at times.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital for a check-up. Doctors are treating him for malnutrition and a low heart rate.
According to local officials, in addition to the 10-year-old boy, the family also had another child living with them. After the incident, they were placed in the custody of the state Department of Children and Family Services.
The Schindleys have been charged with felony criminal mischief, criminal confinement, two counts of child abuse and three counts of cruelty to children.
