Swiss police said on May 31 that they used a pedophile's profile to conduct a secret operation, identifying more than 2,200 other pedophiles around the world .

The news comes after years of operations dubbed "Ninja Turtles," which led to arrests in Switzerland and several other countries, according to a statement from police in the canton of Aargau in that country.

The investigation began when Swiss police received a tip in 2012 that a person living in Aargau and using the alias "Ninja Turtle" was distributing child pornography on the anonymous file-sharing platform GigaTribe.

Police identified the "Ninja Turtle" as a 62-year-old German man who was later convicted in 2015. However, investigators continue to use his profile to expose other pedophiles and child pornography users.

"The undercover internet operation, which lasted for many years, was successful. More than 2,200 child sex offenders were exposed," the police said in a statement.

Several arrests have been made in Switzerland, as well as countries such as Croatia, Brazil, France and Spain. Some of the suspects were not only using pornographic material but also abusing children.

In another development, the Daily Mail reported on May 31 that a British court had just sentenced defendant David Renshaw (63 years old) in West Sussex, a pedophile pastor who smoked crystal meth and once talked about "sacrificing babies to the devil" to 4 years in prison.

Mr Renshaw was previously caught with more than 20,000 indecent images of children. His home also contained meth paraphernalia, animal carcasses and starved animals. The court said he posed a risk to children and ordered the destruction of the images.
