Many effective models

The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program was implemented in Lang Giang commune in 2020 with the goal of developing local products, increasing their value, building brands, and expanding their markets. Lang Giang commune has identified the development of agricultural products, food, and handicrafts as its key product groups. After many years of implementation, the OCOP program has made a positive impact, contributing to the socio-economic development of the commune.

3-star OCOP honey product of Lang Giang commune.

Currently, Lang Giang commune has 8 products recognized as meeting OCOP 3-star standards: Tan Hung honey (Trung Phu Ngoai village); Quyet Thang shrimp paste-braised pork (Nam Tien 2 village); Yen My honey (Yen Vinh village); Dong Thinh straw mushrooms (Dong Thinh village); Huong Lac rice noodles (Ao De 1 village); Chu Nguyen village's glutinous rice wine (Cai Hoa Vang variety); Han Mountain sun-dried beef (Dong Le village); and Thuy Thuong herbal wine (Chu Nguyen village). After being recognized as 3-star OCOP products, they all have labels clearly stating the origin, ingredients, production process, and QR code… allowing customers to easily look up information about quality and origin.

The Dong Thinh straw mushroom farming model of Ms. Quach Thi To's family in Dong Thinh village is a shining example in the locality. With a large garden area and a considerable amount of straw after each rice harvest, about seven years ago, Ms. To invested in mushroom cultivation on a 200 m² enclosed area, using clean straw as a substrate and a steam sterilization system. Due to the correct application of techniques, the mushrooms are of consistent quality, resistant to pests and diseases, and popular with customers, so she expanded the scale to 500 m². In 2022, Dong Thinh straw mushrooms were recognized as achieving OCOP 3-star standard. Ms. To said that the mushroom harvesting season lasts about 6 months each year (from February to July), with a yield of 3.5-4 quintals/month, all harvested and sold immediately. With an average selling price of 85,000 VND/kg, she earns 30-34 million VND per month, creating jobs for 3-5 local workers.

Similarly, taking advantage of the commune's large area of fruit trees, for many years, six households in Trung Phu Ngoai village have been jointly raising bees on a large scale to increase their income. These households consistently maintain 300 colonies of native bees. Each year, they harvest 1,400 liters of honey, a product with a rich golden color and natural aroma, meeting consumer preferences. In 2024, Tan Hung honey was recognized as a 3-star OCOP product. In addition to being sold locally, Tan Hung honey is also sold at many OCOP stalls outside the province. With a selling price of 200-250 thousand VND/liter, the six beekeeping households generate a total revenue of billions of VND each year.

These are just two of the many OCOP (One Commune One Product) models in the commune that generate high revenue, create jobs, and provide stable income for the people. Other OCOP products in the commune have also proven their quality, are easily sold, and bring high economic efficiency. For example, the Quyet Thang shrimp paste-braised pork model in Nam Tien village generates approximately 1.2 billion VND/year in revenue; Yen My honey in Yen Vinh village earns 200-300 million VND/year…

Support to improve product quality

It is known that, in order to effectively implement the OCOP program, Lang Giang commune has not only supported businesses in achieving OCOP standards but also accompanied them throughout the process of maintaining quality and expanding markets. The goal is to build a sustainable brand for products and expand the consumer market.

Mr. Dong Phu Thuan, Head of the Economic Department of Lang Giang Commune, said that the commune has implemented many comprehensive solutions, from guiding households in managing production processes and providing technical training to supporting packaging and product promotion. At the same time, it supports businesses in organizing production and trading, improving labels, expanding production linkage models along the value chain, and enhancing product quality. For example, with the Dong Thinh straw mushroom model, the commune aims to expand mushroom cultivation facilities and encourage businesses to develop new product lines such as dried straw mushrooms and mushroom powder to increase value and create a competitive advantage. The commune supports households in establishing safe beekeeping areas in fruit orchards. Commune technical staff guide farmers in keeping beekeeping logs, preventing diseases with biological pesticides, and ensuring that the harvested honey meets standards and OCOP criteria.

"Lang Giang commune has implemented many comprehensive solutions, from guiding households in managing production processes and providing technical training to supporting packaging and product promotion. At the same time, it supports businesses in organizing production and trade, improving labels, expanding production linkage models along the value chain, and enhancing product quality," said Mr. Dong Phu Thuan, Head of the Economic Department of Lang Giang commune.

In particular, the commune facilitates households to participate in OCOP product promotion booths at fairs and conferences to expand their markets. The locality also supports businesses in bringing their products to e-commerce platforms and building fan pages to promote their products. Along with these solutions, cooperatives, production groups, and individual producers always focus on maintaining product quality and continuing to standardize already recognized products to achieve higher star ratings.

With the achievements made and the specific development orientation, the OCOP program in Lang Giang will continue to bring new successes to the locality. In the coming time, the commune will continue to review potential models, orient the development of more 3-star OCOP products; select production entities participating in the OCOP program to boldly invest, expand scale, improve quality and design, and meet market demands.
