Faced with a series of cases of slaughtering sick and dead pigs for consumption, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has just sent an official dispatch to the People's Committees of provinces and cities requesting to rectify the work of controlling animal slaughter, ensuring disease safety and food hygiene and safety.
The document was issued after the press continuously reported on the slaughter of sick pigs, dead pigs, pigs with infectious diseases such as African swine fever, blue ear disease, etc. to sell to animal product processing and trading establishments.
Typical examples include the seizure of a truck carrying 180 sick and dead pigs for sale on May 30, 2025 in Ha Tinh province and the discovery of a truck carrying many dead pigs to a slaughterhouse on June 3, 2025 in Quang Tri province.
In particular, since May 30, a post by the account “Jonny Lieu” (29,000 followers) has appeared on social media denouncing serious violations at CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, related to the suspected sale of diseased pork at CP Fresh Shop My Xuyen (Soc Trang province). The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has requested the Ministry of Public Security to investigate and clarify the incident.

Faced with the above situation, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requests the Chairmen of the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to direct local departments, branches and veterinary agencies to urgently and synchronously deploy measures. First of all, it is necessary to strictly implement veterinary laws, especially the Central Government's instructions related to quarantine and slaughter control to ensure food safety and prevent animal diseases.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requires increased inspections and surprise checks of slaughterhouses, strict handling of acts of slaughtering sick pigs, dead pigs, pigs without veterinary control; at the same time, suspending operations of facilities without licenses, not ensuring hygiene conditions or using prohibited additives.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment also proposed to establish a close coordination mechanism between the government and veterinary, medical, police and market management forces in monitoring and handling violations related to animal transportation and slaughter, ensuring food safety.
At the same time, it is necessary to step up propaganda to raise awareness of compliance with veterinary hygiene procedures among traders, slaughterers, and food processors; at the same time, help consumers identify and refuse to use animal products of unknown origin and unsafe. Prioritize the development of a centralized slaughter network that meets veterinary hygiene, disease safety, and food safety standards; implement a proactive monitoring program for food of animal origin.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requests that localities seriously implement and closely coordinate with the ministry to promptly handle arising violations.
