Lao Ministry of Defense held a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam's national reunification.

On May 9, in the capital Vientiane, the Lao Ministry of National Defense held a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification of Vietnam (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam was invited to be the keynote speaker at the event.

Attending the ceremony were Senior Lieutenant General Thongloi Silivong, member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Deputy Minister of National Defense of Laos, along with many generals and officers of the Lao People's Army, and representatives of the Office of the Vietnamese Defense Attaché in Laos.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam emphasized that 50 years ago, under the talented leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam , the 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising, culminating in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, carried out by the armed forces and the entire Vietnamese people, achieved a glorious victory; ending the nation's great long-term resistance war against the US to save the country.

This is one of the greatest feats, the most brilliant milestone in the history of building and defending the country of the Vietnamese people, marking the glorious end of the 30-year struggle for independence, freedom, and national unification, ending more than a century of domination by old and new colonialism, bringing Vietnam into a new era - the era of independence, freedom, unity, peace and prosperous development.

On behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, the Ambassador thanked the high-ranking delegation of the Lao Party and State led by General Secretary andPresident Thongloun Sisoulith for coming to Vietnam to attend the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day. The Ambassador said that the history of the relationship between the two nations is a history of friendship, always living in harmony with each other, ready to support and help each other in all circumstances, especially in the process of the two countries sharing hardships, fighting side by side against the common enemy, and together completing the cause of national liberation and national reunification in 1975.

Reviewing historical periods as well as events of liberating the South, unifying the country and highlighting the historical significance for the Vietnamese revolution, the Ambassador emphasized: The victory on April 30 was a great achievement in the cause of social liberation led by the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, a glorious and brilliant page in the path of building and defending the country over thousands of years of history of the Vietnamese people.

This is an event of great international significance and profound epochal significance, delighting friends and progressive people around the world, a glorious milestone in the history of building and defending the country of the Vietnamese people, creating a foundation for the cause of national construction and development.

Highlighting the role of the Vietnam-Laos solidarity alliance in the cause of liberating the South and reunifying Vietnam, the Ambassador said that the victory on April 30 was also an opportunity and strength to help the Lao revolution, army and people rise up to seize power and move towards the establishment of the Lao People's Democratic Republic on December 2, 1975.

The Ambassador emphasized that to achieve the Great Victory in the Spring of 1975, the Party and State of Vietnam will never forget the great support and assistance in terms of human and material resources from the Socialist countries, the peace-loving people of the world, the people of the three Indochinese countries, especially the wholehearted support of the Party and people of Laos, which was demonstrated through the Vietnam-Laos solidarity alliance.

Along with the significance and epochal stature of the Great Victory of Spring 1975, the Ambassador highlighted the reasons for the victory and the lessons of profound value, both in theory and practice, for the revolutionary cause of the Party and the Vietnamese people; the achievements of the Great Victory of Spring 1975 for the cause of building and defending the Vietnamese Fatherland in the new period, as well as fostering the special solidarity relationship between Vietnam and Laos to increasingly develop to new heights.

On this occasion, on behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, the Ambassador expressed his sincere gratitude and deep appreciation for the great support and assistance that the Lao Party, State, army and people have given to Vietnam in the past struggle for national liberation as well as in the current cause of national construction and defense. At the same time, he expressed his belief that the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos will continue to grow to new heights, forever green and sustainable.

Congratulating the historical achievements in various fields that the Party, State and people of Vietnam have achieved, Senior Lieutenant General Thongloi Silivong expressed his deep gratitude to the Party, State, army and people of Vietnam for always supporting, helping, wholeheartedly and effectively to the Party, State, army and people of Laos in the past struggle for national liberation and in the cause of protecting, building and developing Laos today.

Reviewing the historical tradition of the fighting alliance between the Lao People's Army and the fraternal Vietnam People's Army, as well as the great assistance and sacrifice of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and officers for the Lao revolution, Senior Lieutenant General Thongloi Silivong said that every victory of the Lao revolution was associated with the Vietnamese revolution; affirming that solidarity, sharing hardships, fighting together, standing shoulder to shoulder, living and dying together to fight against the common enemy were key factors to jointly win victories in many campaigns, the peak of which was the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, completely liberating the South, reunifying Vietnam in April 1975.
