At the meeting, General Phan Van Giang highly appreciated the results of the 3rd Vietnam - South Africa Defense Policy Dialogue. Through the dialogue, the two sides discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern, as well as the results and directions of defense cooperation in the coming time. The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense will direct relevant agencies to implement the contents agreed upon at the Dialogue.
General Phan Van Giang highlighted the important role and position of South Africa in Africa, which has abundant natural resources, great economic potential, as well as developed industry and agriculture, and advanced science, technology and engineering.
The Vietnamese Minister of National Defense also congratulated South Africa on its achievements in the defense industry and its active participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations in the African region.
At the same time, he emphasized that over the past time, defense cooperation has always been of interest and promoted by the leaders of the two countries' Defense Ministries, especially the implementation of the Agreement on relations in the defense field (signed in 2006) and achieved positive results in the fields of dialogue, delegation exchange, defense industry, logistics, military medicine, etc.
In the coming time, General Phan Van Giang hopes that the two sides will continue to deepen existing areas of cooperation, promote cooperation in other potential areas that both sides have needs, and prioritize high-level contacts through delegation exchanges and dialogue mechanisms, thereby helping the two sides share strategic visions and outline future cooperation directions.
General Phan Van Giang suggested that the two sides study the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding on defense cooperation, which would serve as an important basis to promote defense cooperation between the two countries to become increasingly substantive and effective.
For her part, Ms. Thobekile Gamede thanked the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense for the warm welcome and careful preparation. The Acting Secretary General of South Africa's Defense Department informed Minister Phan Van Giang about the results of the 3rd Vietnam - South Africa Defense Policy Dialogue. At the same time, she expressed her joy at the successful outcome of the Dialogue.
Ms. Thobekile Gamede also expressed her hope that in the coming time, the two sides will actively coordinate and promote cooperation in the agreed fields. Thereby, contributing to promoting the relationship between the two countries' Defense Ministries to develop more and more effectively.
