Vietnam men's volleyball team stops at AVC Champions League group stage

Facing a strong opponent from Qatar, Al Rayyan, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team, called Sport Center 3, could not create a surprise at the AVC Champions League.

On the opening day of the AVC Champions League, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team played bravely, creating a dramatic chase against Al Muharraq (Bahrain). But in the end, coach Tran Dinh Tien's team still had to accept a 1-3 defeat.

This forced the Vietnamese men's volleyball team to win against Al Rayyan on the morning of May 13 to be able to get a ticket to the next round, a very difficult task. Al Rayyan is much stronger than Al Muharraq, with tall but agile athletes such as Noumori Keita (2.06m), Abdel-Aziz Nimir (2.02m), Birama Faye (2.1m),...

Even setter Franca Andre is 1.89m tall. Therefore, Al Rayyan's attacks easily got past the Sport Center 3's defense. In game 1, the Qatari representative won 25-11.

In the second game, the Vietnamese players played better. Although the first step was not good, it was an improvement compared to before.

However, everything was still under Al Rayyan's control. They not only attacked well but also had powerful offensive serves. There was a moment when the main striker Keita scored a series of 3 points from the serve (ace point).

In game 2, Al Rayyan won 25-15. With 2 wins, this team was sure to be at the top of Group D while Vietnam men's volleyball team was at the bottom and was eliminated. Therefore, in game 3, the two teams played with a relaxed mentality. Coach Tran Dinh Tien's players had many improvisational situations, creating beautiful scoring moves. In addition, they also blocked the ball many times.

However, Al Rayyan was still more classy and won 25-21, ending the match with a 3-0 victory.

This defeat means that Vietnamese men's volleyball team is eliminated from the AVC Champions League 2025.
