Winter-spring rice crop is basically good.

(QBĐT) - At this time, many localities in the province have completed the winter-spring rice harvest. Although unfavorable weather, pests and diseases have affected productivity, according to the assessment of the provincial Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection (TT-BVTV), this year's winter-spring crop is basically a good harvest, although the average yield is not as high as last year.

In this year's winter-spring crop, Phu Tho Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative, An Thuy Commune (Le Thuy) produced over 240 hectares of rice. In these areas, the Cooperative mainly produced HG12, Nhi Uu 838, Dai Thom 8... rice varieties, which are medium- and short-term varieties. Although the yield was not as high as last year, all farmers were excited because from the beginning to the end of the crop, despite being affected by many unfavorable weather factors, the output was basically stable.
Ms. Chau Thi Loan, a member of the cooperative, said: This winter-spring crop, on her family's 5ha area, she harvested more than 30 tons of dry rice, mainly Dai Thom 8 variety. With the purchase price of 7,800 VND/kg of 2-sun-dried rice from traders, after deducting expenses, she also earned more than 100 million VND.
Localities have mobilized combine harvesters to harvest rice to ensure progress and reduce costs for farmers.

Deputy Director of the Cooperative Le Quang Nam said: This winter-spring crop, thanks to the guaranteed irrigation water source throughout the crop and proactive prevention of dangerous pests and diseases, most of the rice fields have grown well, giving high yields with an estimated average of 76 quintals/ha. This rice crop, the Cooperative has mobilized 6 combine harvesters to ensure progress, reduce costs for farmers, and focus on quick harvesting to promptly take care of the regenerated rice crop in the summer-autumn crop of 2025.
In this year's winter-spring crop, Le Thuy district planted nearly 10,100 hectares of rice with the following varieties: Nhi Uu 838, VNR20, Ha Phat 3, VN 20, P6, PC6, HN6, QC03, HG12... Despite some disadvantages in weather, pests and diseases on rice plants, the locality has actively directed farmers to closely follow the crop calendar, using high-quality, promising rice varieties for planting and care. Thanks to that, most of the yields were high; many localities, such as: Hong Thuy 80 quintals/ha, Thanh Thuy more than 79 quintals/ha, An Thuy more than 76 quintals/ha, Hoa Thuy more than 76 quintals/ha...
In Quang Trach district, in the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, the rice area in the area has been planted on 3,433 hectares, reaching 101.17% of the plan. The main varieties put into production include: HN6, Ha Phat 3, VNR20... The estimated yield is 60.5 quintals/ha, the output is 22,774.6 tons.
Nguyen Thanh Binh, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Trach district, said: This year, the weather situation at the end of the winter-spring crop season had unfavorable developments, causing local impacts on crop productivity and output. However, thanks to the close attention and close coordination of localities in directing production and arranging a reasonable crop calendar, rice productivity was still quite good. In particular, the rice variety structure of localities has changed, shifting towards short-term, avoiding risks due to unfavorable weather at the end of the season. The district also applied advanced intensive farming processes and actively mechanized agriculture, contributing to improving rice productivity and output in the area.
Ms. Hoang Thi Vung, a rice trader in Dong Hoi City, said that each crop she buys 500-700 tons of rice in the whole province. Currently, the price of dry rice has decreased by an average of 1,000-1,500 VND/kg compared to the same period last year, depending on the variety, specifically: Dai Thom 8 is priced at 8,300 VND/kg, VNR20 is priced at 9,500 VND/kg, other types of rice are priced at 8,000 VND/kg...

Currently, the locality is encouraging people to plant early summer-autumn rice to avoid unfavorable weather at the end of the crop. Based on the seed structure for the 2025 summer-autumn crop, the district has also directed localities to guide farmers to arrange suitable varieties, increase the area for producing quality rice seeds, reduce the amount of seeds sown (under 5 kg/sao), each field uses 1-2 types of rice varieties with the same growth period for convenience in irrigation, care and harvesting.

According to Ho Khac Minh, Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of the province, at this time, many winter-spring rice areas in the province have been urgently harvested by farmers. Through actual inspection and assessment of localities, it shows that this year's winter-spring crop yield is not as high as last year, but it is basically a good harvest. The total rice yield of the province is estimated at 62.9 quintals/ha. Currently, the whole province has harvested more than 21,000/29,133ha, localities have basically completed the harvest, including: Quang Trach, Tuyen Hoa, Minh Hoa, Ba Don Town, Dong Hoi City.
To ensure a successful summer-autumn crop, immediately after the harvest, localities have proactively instructed people to urgently clean the fields, prepare the soil early (plowing, drying the fields, treating with lime, stubble decomposition products...) to eliminate pests and diseases, limit the occurrence of harmful pests; fully prepare materials such as: seeds, fertilizers, pesticides... to ensure sowing and planting according to the crop calendar and variety structure issued by the Department of Agriculture and Environment.
Localities launched irrigation campaigns to clear the flow, repair and dredge canals, ensuring enough water for irrigation for the summer-autumn crop; at the same time, reviewed rice fields that lacked water and could not produce rice or produced rice with low efficiency to encourage conversion to dry crops such as green beans, corn, peanuts, vegetables of all kinds or other suitable forms of production that are more effective than rice cultivation.
