The Turkish football world has recently witnessed another shock after a series of violations by referees in this country. Specifically, the Istanbul court recently caused an earthquake when it issued an arrest warrant for Murat Ozkaya, President of Eyupspor Club, and seven referees on charges of "interfering with the results of the match" in a large-scale betting case in the Super Lig. This is like dropping another stone into the quagmire of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF).
The investigation has spread and shown that the betting scandal is not limited to officials but also extends to players and referees. Under Mr. Ozkaya, Eyupspor made a splash when they were promoted to the Super Lig (Turkish National Championship) for the first time in history in 2024 after recruiting former player Arda Turan.

Before this incident, TFF announced that there were 1,204 players under review, of which 27 were playing in the Super Lig , including players from Galatasaray, Besiktas and Trabzonspor. Some prominent names mentioned include Ersin Destanoglu, Necip Uysal (Besiktas) or Evren Eren Elmalı (Galatasaray).
Even the men in black are not immune to involvement. In another announcement, Turkish football was rocked when a five-year investigation revealed the shocking truth that 371 out of 571 referees had betting accounts, of which 152 were still on duty. This also led to 149 referees being disciplined, and more than 40 match officials being forced to resign.
TFF declared that it would "clean up Turkish football from the roots", but public opinion believes that this scandal will continue, becoming one of the biggest negative incidents in the history of Super Lig.
