Important step forward of regenerative medicine in Vietnam

At the conference on immunotherapy organized by the Nichi-In Center for Regenerative Medicine (Japan), Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Liem, Director of the Vinmec Stem Cell and Gene Technology Institute, announced the results after many years of implementing autologous enhanced immunotherapy (AIET) in cancer treatment in Vietnam.

AIET uses the patient's own healthy immune cells, including NK cells and autologous T lymphocytes. Accordingly, 100ml of blood will be taken from the patient, processed, cultured in the laboratory, and the product will be returned to the patient. Each patient may need from 2 to 6 treatment cycles, depending on the progression and stage of the cancer.

At Vinmec, the use of AIET as an adjunct therapy combined with standard treatments has been shown to increase treatment effectiveness by 20 to 30% and significantly improve survival time for patients with various types of cancer. Results of two clinical trials showed that survival time for patients with colorectal cancer increased by an average of 14.3 months; for lung and liver cancer, the increase was up to 18.7 months.

Not only do patients live longer, they also live better. More than 100 patients (with late-stage breast, ovarian, thyroid, and head-neck cancers) who participated in the treatment all reported good appetite, deep sleep, reduced fatigue and depression, and improved physical activity. In particular, because they used autologous cells, there were almost no side effects. The success of AIET is an important step forward for regenerative medicine in Vietnam, a field that is considered the "key" to prolonging life and improving the quality of life for people.
