On October 24 and 25 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Medical Association coordinated with the Ministry of Health to organize the 2025 National Scientific Conference with the theme "Research and application in medicine".
This is the largest annual scientific event of the Vietnam Medical Association for scientists, experts, managers and medical staff to exchange, update knowledge, share practical experiences, from research to application in diagnosis, treatment and disease prevention, contributing to improving the quality of health care for the people.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Xuyen, President of the Vietnam Medical Association, said the conference will have four sessions, including one plenary session and three thematic sessions with a total of 22 presentations. The reporters are leading experts, directly involved in treatment, research and health policy consulting.
The report focuses on: Policy research, new advances in medical research and application, especially in the fields of cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and prevention models, and community health care.

The 2025 Scientific Conference is a concrete step to effectively implement Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation and Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW dated September 9, 2025 of the Politburo "On a number of breakthrough solutions to strengthen the protection, care and improvement of people's health".
On the other hand, it helps strengthen the connection between medical research-training-practice; promotes the application of research results into actual treatment and medical management; improves the quality of medical examination and treatment and the efficiency of the health system; innovates health finance policies, meeting health care needs in the new development stage... In particular, through thematic sessions and open discussions, the conference creates opportunities to share experiences, propose practical solutions, contributing to the development of modern, integrated and sustainable Vietnamese medicine.
Speaking at the Conference, Professor, Dr. Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health, Chairman of the National Medical Council, said that in recent years, many specialized and complex techniques in diagnosis and treatment such as organ transplantation, coronary intervention, advanced radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, molecular biology, regenerative medicine, etc. have been effectively deployed in specialized and high-tech specialized hospitals. New technologies in the fields of pharmacy and medical equipment, such as the production of biological drugs, therapeutic enzymes, monoclonal antibodies, stem cells, or nanotechnology in medicine, etc. have also been gradually researched and developed in Vietnam.
"At the same time, the health sector is actively implementing solutions to improve the efficiency of health care through digital technology tools such as electronic medical records, electronic health records, artificial intelligence in diagnostic support, early warning systems for epidemics... These applications not only improve the quality of health services, but also play an important role in system management and evidence-based health policy making," Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan emphasized.
According to Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan, in the field of preventive medicine, research on epidemiology, vaccine effectiveness, community intervention models, etc. is being promoted to effectively control infectious and non-communicable diseases. At the same time, research activities on health policy, health finance reform, and health economic evaluation are also gradually being standardized, making important contributions to the development and implementation of public policies in the health sector.
"Today's conference is held in the context that the entire industry is implementing key tasks identified in Resolution No. 72 dated September 9, 2025 of the Politburo on breakthrough policies in strengthening the protection, care and improvement of people's health. In particular, developing medicine based on scientific research, innovation and application of high technology is one of the major strategic orientations," Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan emphasized.
In addition, Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan also affirmed: We not only aim to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment but also focus on life-cycle health management, from prevention, screening, early intervention, to rehabilitation and long-term care. According to the Resolution, from 2026, people will receive free periodic health examinations or screenings at least once a year; by 2030, we will gradually move towards free basic hospital fees, reducing the financial burden on people.

The Ministry of Health highly appreciates the role of the Vietnam Medical Association in gathering and promoting the intelligence of medical experts and intellectuals at home and abroad; organizing scientific conferences and seminars of high academic and practical nature; and actively participating in consulting and criticizing health policies.
Professor, Dr. Tran Van Thuan emphasized: In addition to the plenary session, the 2025 scientific conference will have three important thematic sessions on health policy, oncology, and vaccine preventive medicine, which are clear evidence for the orientation of comprehensive and in-depth medical development, linking research, clinical practice, community, and policy making. Therefore, representatives of participating units should take the time to attend all sessions, carefully study the reports, actively exchange and discuss expertise to disseminate valuable research results, and promote effective application in the practice of caring for and protecting people's health.
