An Giang Cardiovascular Hospital received Diamond Award
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Quang Hien, Director of the Department of Health, said that up to now, the quality of the stroke treatment network in the province has been improved. The whole province has 4 treatment facilities: Tan Chau Regional General Hospital has achieved Gold certification; An Giang Central General Hospital, Provincial Regional General Hospital has achieved Platinum certification; An Giang Cardiovascular Hospital has achieved Diamond certification in stroke treatment.
MSc. Dr. Bui Huu Minh Tri, Director of An Giang Cardiovascular Hospital informed: "After more than 33 years of establishment and development, the hospital has achieved many achievements in all 3 fields: Intensive cardiovascular medical treatment, interventional cardiology and open heart surgery. The hospital constantly improves the process, shortening the time of infusing blood clot-dissolving drugs to save brain cells. In 2021, we are the first public hospital in the Mekong Delta to receive the Stroke Treatment Award from the World Stroke Association. In June 2024, we will continue to receive the Diamond Award - the highest award in Stroke Treatment from the World Stroke Association (WSO Angels Awards)".
Other specialized techniques are routinely performed at the hospital: Treatment of arrhythmias with radiofrequency waves, temporary and permanent pacemaker placement, intra-aortic balloon pump placement for patients with cardiogenic shock, continuous blood filtration in cases of acute renal failure. In addition, there are highly effective cardiovascular health support programs, such as: Heart failure management program in cooperation with Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, monitoring nearly 800 patients with severe heart failure. Cardiovascular and renal risk counseling program through CAREME kiosk; "First Day" counseling room providing information for patients with hypertension, diabetes and ischemic heart disease...
In October 2024, An Giang Cardiovascular Hospital, in collaboration with experts from Cho Ray Hospital, successfully implemented coronary artery bypass surgery without using extracorporeal circulation. This is a modern method that helps reduce the risk of complications related to extracorporeal circulation, such as: kidney failure, blood clotting disorders and cognitive decline after surgery.
From 2018 to present, the hospital has performed nearly 6,000 coronary angiography cases; CT coronary angiography and intervention; emergency intervention, red alert; permanent pacemaker placement; atrial septal defect closure; patent ductus arteriosus closure. Over 120 coronary artery bypass surgeries; mitral valve surgery with valve ring placement; mitral valve and aortic valve replacement surgery; mitral valve and tricuspid valve repair, etc.
At An Giang Provincial General Hospital, Dr. Nguyen Huu Nghia, Head of the Interventional Cardiology Department, said: "We have been performing percutaneous coronary intervention for more than 5 years, performing coronary angiography and stent placement in more than 1,000 cases, with a clinical success rate of 95%, on par with major centers nationwide. The survival rate is even higher in patients with cardiogenic shock (70% compared to 50% in domestic studies)."
To date, the hospital has performed 5 cases of intracoronary ultrasound; 3 cases of aortic balloon counterpulsation; 5 cases of left main coronary artery intervention, and placed temporary pacemakers for 15 cases of bradyarrhythmia - cardiogenic shock, with a 100% success rate. More than 45 cases of thrombolysis in patients with pulmonary embolism, pericardial puncture, and temporary pacemaker placement; 2,000 cases of echocardiography. The hospital has also deployed a new technique: coronary atherosclerosis cavity using a diamond cavity (Rotalator). "A relative had an intracranial hemorrhage, fell into a state of unconsciousness, and thought he would not survive. But the doctors saved his life, and we are very grateful" - the family of patient N. (residing in Tinh Bien town) expressed.
Dr. Nguyen Van Hung, Director of the Provincial General Hospital, said: "Recently, the hospital has successfully treated many cases of ruptured cerebral aneurysms with coils for patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage. This is a difficult and specialized technique, a minimally invasive treatment method in the blood vessels, using advanced technology of modern medicine. The technique brings a chance of life to many patients, especially patients with health insurance."
To effectively implement this technique, it is necessary to invest synchronously in the system of diagnostic imaging equipment: Computed tomography (128-slice CT machine), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), digital subtraction angiography (DSA). The hospital also has a team of doctors and technicians who are professionally trained and have mastered the technique; continue to apply high-tech medical services and modern medical equipment, so that An Giang people can be examined and treated right in the province, without having to go to the Central health system.
With the efforts of the health sector and the dedication of the leaders of the treatment facilities, many advanced techniques have been deployed and updated very quickly, and dangerous cardiovascular diseases have been effectively treated. People expect that with modern equipment and trained human resources, the province will continue to master advanced techniques in cardiovascular diseases, increase survival rates and bring healthy living opportunities to patients in their hometown.
