On the evening of March 23, 20124, in response to the Earth Hour Campaign, many countries and territories around the world, along with 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam, responded to the Earth Hour Campaign by turning off lights and minimizing the use of electrical equipment for 1 hour, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The Earth Hour event in 2024 in Vietnam takes place with the message "SAVE ELECTRICITY - BECOME A HABIT" sent to the community with a call to save electricity, save energy and protect the environment and not only takes place in 1 hour, but all organizations and individuals need to remember and do it regularly throughout 365 days of the year to save electricity, save energy truly becomes a habit.
The Earth Hour campaign has increasingly spread across the country and become an annual activity on energy saving and environmental protection in March every year. Through propaganda and awareness raising, Earth Hour is expected to create a change in the community's awareness and actions in saving energy and protecting the environment.
In order for the program's activities to be meaningful and practically effective, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has requested the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities and Vietnam Electricity Group to coordinate in organizing communication activities in response to Earth Hour taking place in March to attract the attention of many organizations, agencies and people in the provinces and cities to participate in the campaign; mobilize organizations, agencies and people to turn off lights and unnecessary equipment during the event.
In Hanoi , at exactly 8:30 p.m., the lights-off ceremony in response to the Earth Hour Campaign 2024 officially took place at the Hoan Kiem Lake walking pit, Hoan Kiem District. Famous landmarks in Hanoi such as Ngoc Son Temple - Turtle Tower - The Huc Bridge, Ly Thai To Flower Garden; Hanoi Opera House, Truc Bach Lake... simultaneously turned off their lights. Many neighborhoods in Hanoi were almost plunged into darkness.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thang - Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade emphasized: Just a few small actions will bring great meaning to the community, creating a habit of saving energy, protecting the environment, responding to climate change throughout the year, contributing to completing the goal of net zero emissions by 2050 according to Vietnam's commitment at the 26th COP Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Responding to Earth Hour this year, Hanoi organized practical activities such as launching an online race in response to the Earth Hour Campaign 2024 on March 17, 2024 at Trinh Cong Son walking street, Tay Ho district. In addition, Hanoi also organized propaganda, hung banners, slogans and organized cheerleading and cycling activities on main streets in the city. Organized a painting contest "Children of the Capital - Saving electricity becomes a habit"; the program "Exchange paper for trees" with the message of environmental protection in response to Earth Hour.
With its effects and spread across the country, the Earth Hour 2024 Campaign not only contributes to saving a part of electricity consumption, raising awareness of energy saving and efficiency in the community, but also contributes to realizing Vietnam's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) is also one of the typical units that always cares and actively cooperates to implement the program well. According to information from the Group, in the spirit of actively responding to the Earth Hour campaign, taking advantage of the community spreading power of the internet, digital transformation and social networks, EVN has requested units to jointly post propaganda content on electricity saving and environmental protection in response to the Earth Hour Campaign 2024 on the Group's digital media channels and those of units such as websites, zalo, Facebook, Tiktok, Youtube..., with rich, attractive forms of expression, attracting readers/viewers such as Infographics, photos, video clips...
The Group also requested the Electricity Corporations, Electricity Companies of provinces and cities to organize propaganda on electricity saving and environmental protection at customer transaction locations and headquarters of the units. At the same time, mobilize organizations, agencies and customers to turn off lights and unnecessary electrical equipment during Earth Hour from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024.
Through data on national electricity consumption, the National Power System Control Center said: After 1 hour of turning off the lights in response to the Earth Hour Campaign 2024 (from 20:30 to 21:30 on March 23, 2024), the whole country saved 428,000 kWh of electricity (equivalent to about 858.9 million VND).
After 16 years of active participation, the Earth Hour campaign in Vietnam has been increasingly widespread across the country and has become a very meaningful annual activity in March every year. From propaganda and raising awareness, the Earth Hour campaign has so far made an important contribution to turning each individual's awareness into concrete actions in practicing electricity saving, energy saving, and environmental protection.
Within the framework of the Earth Hour Campaign 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has simultaneously deployed a series of activities in response, specifically: organizing the Online Contest "Learning knowledge about using energy economically and efficiently in response to the Earth Hour Campaign 2024"; Launching a nationwide campaign to save electricity and a Run in response to Earth Hour 2024.
The series of events has actively contributed to spreading the message "Saving electricity - Making it a habit" of this year's Earth Hour Campaign, creating a positive change in public awareness of using energy economically, effectively, and protecting the environment; at the same time implementing Directive No. 20/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on enhancing electricity saving in the period of 2023-2025 and the following years.
Earth Hour is one of the annual global events on environmental protection, with the response of many countries and territories. The Earth Hour campaign has created a huge change in awareness as well as in the actions of people around the world in saving energy and protecting the environment. Starting in Sydney - Australia in 2007, with more than 2 million participants, up to now, nearly 200 countries/territories and billions of people around the world have responded. The Earth Hour campaign in Vietnam, co-chaired by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Vietnam and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, has attracted the attention and response of 63 provinces and cities and many people from all walks of life. 2024 is also the 16th time Vietnam has actively participated in the program. |
