Accordingly, for rice, the main variety group accounts for about 70% of the area, including pure rice varieties such as HN6, Khang Dan 18, VNR20, HC95, Ha Phat 3, HG12, PC6, QS88, ADI28, TBR97, DD2...; the additional variety group accounts for about 20%, including Thien Uu 8, Bac Thom No. 7, DB6, TBR225, SV181, BT09...; and the group of new, promising varieties is arranged in no more than 10% of the area. Hybrid rice varieties such as Nhi Uu 838, VT404, MHC2, KH336... continue to be encouraged to expand in suitable areas.
The planting time frame is determined for rice to flower within the safe period from April 10-20, 2026 (February 23 - March 4, Binh Ngo year). Specifically, varieties with a growth period of 130 days are sown from January 1-10; 120-day varieties are sown from January 10-15; 115-day varieties are sown from January 15-20; 110-day varieties are sown from January 20-25, 2026.
For upland crops, waxy corn and hybrid corn are sown from late November 2025 to January 20, 2026 depending on the variety group; peanuts are sown from December 15, 2025 to February 10, 2026; sweet potatoes are planted from late November 2025 to mid-January 2026; cassava is planted from November 2025 to mid-February 2026, and in hilly and mountainous areas, this period can extend to June 2026.
Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hong Phuong said that based on the province's orientation, localities need to proactively arrange the seed structure and build a specific and flexible crop calendar, suitable for the conditions of each region and each type of crop. Each locality should structure 3-4 types of rice varieties suitable from the province's recommended seed set to focus on intensive cultivation, convenient for land preparation, sowing, care, irrigation, pest control and harvesting.
At the same time, it is necessary to strictly comply with regulations on plant variety management, not to put into production untested varieties. In addition, localities should strengthen propaganda and instruct people to absolutely not use, buy, sell, exchange, or transport cassava cuttings from areas affected by cassava mosaic virus disease and not to plant disease-sensitive varieties such as HLS-11, HLS-12, KM60, KM419, KM140, to ensure safety for winter-spring crop production in 2025-2026.
