Ms. Ho Thi Nhu Huyen, An Dong ward, Thuan Hoa district: The shock of mothers
Having a small child at home, I am very worried about the fake milk news. Nearly 600 milk brands is a terrible number. I have taken my child to several private clinics because his health is weak compared to children of the same age. Most doctors prescribed and suggested buying supplementary milk, and my child has also drunk several types of milk... Patients always put their trust in doctors and worry about their children; no matter how difficult it is, every mother tries to give her child the best.
The discovery of large-scale fake milk is a shock to mothers. They thought the milk would make their children healthy, but it turned out to be fake. I don't understand why the authorities have allowed hundreds of types of low-quality milk to slip through over the years. I hope they will take strict action and establish discipline for this market. Now, mothers are talking about going back to drinking fresh milk and homemade nut milk to ensure safety. Me too.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Chau Duc, senior lecturer of Pediatrics, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University: Do not buy formula milk according to trends.
If you are concerned about your child’s nutritional status, take your child to a specialist hospital for an accurate examination and assessment. You should not follow the trend of buying good milk for your child, but must determine the child’s physical condition and needs.
In addition to breast milk, in some cases, supplementing with formula milk is necessary for children such as mothers with low milk supply, premature and low birth weight babies, babies with cow's milk protein allergies, and digestive problems. Determining malnutrition in children is based on the following factors: Slow weight gain or no weight gain in 2 months; little or no breastfeeding, fatigue; pale skin, hair loss, slow teething; anorexia, fussiness, etc.
To decide whether to supplement with formula milk, it is necessary to monitor growth using the WHO chart, evaluate the amount of milk consumed daily, observe signs of malnutrition, such as pale skin, fatigue, and consult a doctor or expert in this field. Using formula milk correctly means choosing the right type of milk, mixing it according to the instructions, giving the baby a little at a time, and monitoring the reaction after drinking...
Mr. Phan Hung Son, Head of the Market Management Department of Hue City: Regularly monitor and detect violations and handle them according to the law.
In the past, there have been no major violations of fake milk trading in the area. However, in response to information about the situation of pharmaceuticals and health protection foods of unknown origin, not yet granted product declaration receipt numbers by competent state management agencies; advertising of products inconsistent with the product's features and fake milk occurring in many localities in the country, the Department has strengthened the management of the area, market surveillance, review and verification of information, and implementation of inspection and control rounds.
The process of checking and controlling the business activities of dairy products at distribution facilities, milk agents, specialized milk stores, supermarkets, and grocery stores that sell expired dairy products has been detected and handled promptly.
We continue to implement the Plan to combat counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin and infringement of intellectual property rights in the area. The goal is to prevent the public sale of counterfeit goods, goods that violate intellectual property rights, and goods of unknown origin on e-commerce platforms; there will be no more open production and trade of counterfeit goods in the area...
DS.CKI Le Viet Bac - Deputy Director of the City Department of Health : Functional foods are not allowed in prescriptions.
According to Clause 23, Article 2 of the Food Safety Law 2010, “Functional foods (FF) are foods used to support the functions of the human body, create a comfortable state for the body, increase resistance, reduce the risk of disease, including supplements, health protection foods, and medical nutritional foods”. FF are not prescribed in prescriptions for any reason or form according to Clause 15, Article 6 of the Pharmacy Law 2016 and Clause 10, Article 4 of Circular 52/2017/TT-BYT. Thus, it must be affirmed that doctors are not allowed to prescribe FF in prescriptions for patients.
When prescribing dietary supplements for patients, doctors need to advise, clearly explain the ingredients, effects and reasons for use and get the patient's consent in a form other than a prescription. Can be considered in the following cases: Supporting the treatment of chronic diseases; supplementing micronutrients for cases of iron, calcium, vitamin D, zinc deficiency...; people with special needs needing nutritional and micronutrient supplements (pregnant women, the elderly, people after surgery); supporting immune enhancement; beauty and anti-aging.
Dietary supplements are not drugs, do not have the effect of treating diseases and do not replace drugs, so they can only be used for some of the above purposes. However, the use of dietary supplements must also be considered and not abused, used for the right purpose, according to instructions: dosage, time as prescribed by the doctor or recommended by the manufacturer.
