Focus resources on universal education and illiteracy eradication

In recent times, the Steering Committee for Universal Education and Literacy Eradication (PCGD, XMC) at all levels in Can Tho City has been constantly strengthened, improved and operated more and more effectively. The school system continues to be expanded and upgraded, meeting the people's learning needs better and better; student mobilization is increasingly concerned.

In particular, the work of PCGD and XMC has received attention from sectors at all levels and has played a good advisory role with Party committees and authorities at all levels to propose feasible solutions, contributing to the completion of goals for this work.

In 2024, Can Tho City will meet the standards of preschool education for 5-year-old children, primary education level 3, secondary education level 2, and secondary education level 2. However, the city identified the difficulty as the limited distribution of students after graduating from secondary school to secondary schools and vocational colleges; there are no job positions for preschool education, secondary education, etc.

In 2025, the Steering Committees at all levels will continue to carry out tasks and solutions to effectively implement the work of PCGD and XMC. The City Steering Committee will continue to implement the Project on building a Learning Society for the period 2021 - 2030; strengthen the team, facilities and equipment of schools; improve the quality of care and education; focus on innovating teaching methods, innovating testing and evaluating students' learning outcomes; strengthen coordination between relevant sectors to mobilize students to go to class...

According to the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City, the work of PCGD and XMC is one of the major policies of the Party and State. It plays a very important role in improving the intellectual level of the people, creating human resources to effectively serve the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country.

To effectively carry out the work of PCGD and XMC, in recent times, the city has mobilized and concentrated all resources to complete the political task of solving and utilizing human resources for the development of the city. To both meet the learning needs of the people and improve the intellectual level of the people, creating conditions and opportunities for a part of the city's youth to find jobs and stabilize their lives.

Propaganda, raising awareness and learning consciousness

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of Can Tho City People's Committee added that the city highly appreciates the efforts of sectors and levels in effectively implementing the work of building a learning society, PCGD, and XMC.

At the same time, it is recommended that the Steering Committees at all levels strengthen propaganda work, raise awareness, and arouse the spirit of self-study and lifelong learning among all people. Party committees and authorities at all levels need to specify tasks related to PCGD and XMC in resolutions and annual work programs; and develop regulations for coordination of activities between the Party, authorities, and organizations at all levels in implementing PCGD and XMC.

The City Department of Education closely coordinates with relevant agencies and units to review the school network and the number of people working in educational institutions to continue advising the city to build more schools and recruit additional teachers to ensure that wherever there are students, there are schools and teachers.

Focus on directing the construction of national standard schools at all levels. Strengthen the direction of general education institutions to closely coordinate with vocational education institutions to promote student streaming in general education...

Recently, the People's Committee of Can Tho City has issued a Plan to implement Decision No. 525 of the Prime Minister promulgating the Plan to implement Directive No. 29 of the Politburo on universal education, compulsory education, adult literacy and promoting student streaming in general education by 2030 in Can Tho City.

Specific objectives: Preschool education continues to maintain, consolidate and improve the quality of preschool education for 5-year-old children; strives to complete preschool education for kindergarten children; the rate of mobilizing children to go to school reaches 38% of nursery-age children and 97% of kindergarten-age children...

General Education: Maintain the results of Primary Education Generalization at level 3, strive for Secondary Education Generalization at level 3; the rate of attendance at the right age for primary school reaches 99.5%, for secondary school reaches 97%; the rate of completion of primary school at the right age reaches 99.7%, for secondary school reaches 99% and completion of high school reaches 95%; the rate of transition from primary school to secondary school reaches 99.5%, from secondary school to high school and other levels reaches 95%; 100% of primary school students study 2 sessions/day...

Vocational education and continuing education, eliminate illiteracy for 0.5% of illiterate adults, including 0.4% of illiterate adults aged 15 to 60; strive for the rate of level 1 literacy among people aged 15 to 60 to reach 99.1%, including the rate of level 1 literacy among people aged 15 to 60 in ethnic minority areas to reach 98.8%.

The city maintains the level 2 literacy standard; strives for 100% of junior high and high school students to have access to professional career guidance and counseling services...
