The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Can Tho City organized a communication session on Gender Equality, Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence on the occasion of Vietnamese Women's Day, October 20, for students of schools in Can Tho City and managers and employees of departments of Taewang Can Tho Company with the theme "Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence".
Attending and directing the opening ceremony were Mr. Tieu Minh Duong - Party Secretary, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs; Ms. Phan Quynh Dao - Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and representatives of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of districts in Can Tho city; about 150 managers and employees of departments of Taewang Can Tho company;
And 300 students from schools: Can Tho College, Can Tho Vocational College, Can Tho Medical College, Can Tho College of Economics and Technology, Can Tho College of Tourism, Can Tho College of Culture and Arts.

With the aim of increasingly widespread communication, creating a spread of gender equality in the community and society, good practices, solutions, and annual topics always guide gender equality activities according to focused and key topics, such as: Joining hands to eliminate violence against women and girls; Joining hands to end violence against women and girls; Proactively preventing and combating violence and abuse against women and children; Ensuring social security, increasing power and creating opportunities for women and girls to achieve gender equality and eliminate gender-based violence" .etc.
300 students from Can Tho College, Can Tho Vocational College, Can Tho Medical College, Can Tho College of Economics and Technology, Can Tho College of Tourism, Can Tho College of Culture and Arts attended the communication class.
At the same time, promote propaganda and legal education on gender equality and prevention of gender-based violence among all classes of people to help raise awareness, change behaviors to implement gender equality, gradually narrow the gender gap, promote gender equality in all areas of social life, contributing to the successful implementation of the goals of the National Strategy on Gender Equality in Can Tho city in 2023.
In his opening speech, Mr. Tieu Minh Duong said: In recent times, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Can Tho City has coordinated with all levels and sectors to organize and implement many activities to promote gender equality and women's advancement from the city level to the grassroots level with many diverse forms such as: hanging banners on the streets; organizing competitions, training courses or integrating gender equality-related content into the sector's work; mobilizing funds, organizing visits and giving gifts to women in difficult circumstances who have overcome difficulties, women and children who have suffered violence and abuse.
At the grassroots level, communication is done through activities to people in hamlets, areas, and on the radio, with the content of specific activities such as the Month of Action for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence.

However, in some localities, domestic violence, child abuse and violence still exist, and gender equality awareness in a few families is still "male preference over female" which is a barrier in the process of implementing gender equality.
Gender inequality will affect rights, obligations, division of labor, job opportunities, wages, income, and promotion opportunities between men and women, especially women in rural, remote, and isolated areas.
A very few sectors and localities sometimes do not pay attention to the task of gender equality work. After a period of operation, the model becomes stagnant due to lack of human resources and resources. Therefore, this work needs to be maintained and gradually strengthened.
This Gender Equality Communication Event is an effort to contribute to raising awareness and pushing back limitations and negative manifestations of gender equality.

This Gender Equality Communication Event is an effort to raise awareness, push back the limitations and negative manifestations of gender equality. At the same time, provide legal information on gender equality to students, staff and workers in the most systematic and complete way.
From there, through them, they change the awareness and behavior of the community about gender, build equal relationships between men and women, and enhance the position and role of women in modern society.
