Heavy rain warning in many areas across the country

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said: In the afternoon and evening of May 20, in the Central Highlands and the South, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some places having heavy to very heavy rain. The rainfall from 13:00 to 22:00 on May 20 was over 70 mm in some places, such as: Cam My ( Dong Nai ) 95.4 mm, Cai Be (Tien Giang) 76.6 mm, Cang Long (Tra Vinh) 71.8 mm...

It is forecasted that in the afternoon and evening of May 21, the Central Highlands and the South will have rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 20-40 mm, some places over 70 mm.

In addition, in the evening and night of May 21, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms in the Northern region. Thunderstorms may include tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

The warning center warns that from the night of May 22 to May 24, in the Northern region, there is a possibility of moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with total rainfall of 70-150 mm, in some places over 250 mm.

From the evening and night of May 23 to the night of May 24, in the North Central region, there is a possibility of moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with total rainfall of 40-100 mm, in some places over 150 mm.

Warning of risk of heavy rain (>100 mm/3 hours).

Thunderstorms may contain tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds.

Warning level of natural disaster risk due to heavy rain, tornado, lightning, hail: Level 1.

According to the Center, heavy rain is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.

The Center said that on May 20, from Nghe An to Quang Ngai, there will be hot weather, some places will be extremely hot. The highest temperature is commonly 35-37 degrees Celsius, some places will be over 37 degrees Celsius such as: Con Cuong (Nghe An) 37.3 degrees Celsius, Dong Ha (Quang Tri) 37.2 degrees Celsius,... The lowest relative humidity is commonly 50-60%.

It is forecasted that on May 21-22, Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen will have hot weather, some places will be extremely hot with the highest temperature commonly ranging from 35-37 degrees Celsius, some places will be over 37 degrees Celsius; the lowest relative humidity commonly ranges from 50-55%. From May 23, the hot weather from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen will tend to ease.

Disaster risk level: Level 1.

The center also warned that due to increased electricity demand and low humidity, there could be explosions in residential areas and forest fires. The heat can cause dehydration, exhaustion and heat stroke due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures.

The center noted that the forecast temperature may differ by 2-4°C from the actual outdoor temperature, or even higher if there are heat-absorbing surfaces such as concrete and asphalt.
