South Korean police seek to arrest President Yoon

South Korean police on January 10 convened a meeting with heads of police investigation agencies in the capital area to seek the arrest of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, related to his imposition of martial law last month.

According to Yonhap, the meeting was chaired by the National Office of Investigation (NOI) to prepare for the execution of an arrest warrant for Mr. Yoon on charges of rebellion and abuse of power, after he repeatedly refused to appear before the investigation agency. The Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) of South Korea failed to arrest Mr. Yoon on January 3 due to being blocked by bodyguards at his residence in Seoul. On January 9, the NOI sent a dispatch to investigation agencies across the capital area, requesting the mobilization of about 1,000 investigators to continue efforts to arrest Mr. Yoon.
