Unprecedented scene at famous Hue beach

The famous beach in Hue was 'wiped out' by fierce waves after the storm. The sandbank at Ham Rong beach was deeply gouged, shops collapsed, and trees used for landscaping and wave protection were uprooted.

In late November, the entire Ham Rong beach (Vinh Loc commune, Hue city) was completely deformed due to the continuous storms and rains. The golden sandbank was eroded and deeply eroded by the waves. Trees that created the landscape and served as breakwaters were uprooted and scattered. The system of shops and services along the beach was severely damaged, creating a scene of devastation and desolation stretching along the famous coastline of Hue.

Ham Rong Beach was devastated after the storms. Local service providers estimate heavy damage and a risk to their livelihoods in the long term if this famous beach spot is not restored.

Many concrete structures supporting shops were eroded by the strong waves, exposing the foundations underneath. The pillars were "hanging" over the mouth of the waves. In some places, there were steep banks, threatening the safety of residents and tourists.

The sandy beach was washed away by the strong waves, many beachside shops that were once bustling with tourists are now deserted and desolate. According to the People's Committee of Vinh Loc Commune, the entire beach area currently has 5 shops that are severely damaged, many items cannot be restored due to the loss of foundations, and houses are hanging over the edge of the cliff.

Mr. Hoang Trong Quang, the owner of a restaurant at Ham Rong beach, said that the erosion had been happening for many years, but recently the level of destruction caused by the waves has exceeded the imagination of those who specialize in service businesses here. "My restaurant used to have two rows of coconut trees more than 30 meters from the sea's edge. Now the waves have washed them all away, washed away the foundation and collapsed the restaurant. This scene has never happened here before," Mr. Quang said.

Not only affecting tourism , this year's sea erosion in Vinh Loc also directly impacts residential areas. According to research, in village 4 of Vinh Loc commune, there are currently 14 households in the landslide danger zone. People are concerned that if there is no urgent solution to the embankment, the sea will continue to eat into the mainland, causing the shore to be wiped out, affecting the safety and livelihood of many households.

Like Mr. Quang, many business households providing services along Ham Rong beach hope that the authorities will soon have urgent solutions such as soft embankments and sheet pile embankments to reduce the speed of coastal erosion while waiting for the investment in a solid embankment system.

According to Vinh Loc Commune People's Committee, the local government has proposed and recommended that Hue City promptly allocate funds to urgently handle severe landslides, in order to restore livelihoods for people in the beach service area and ensure safety for residential areas.

In the long term, the State needs to invest in a system of solid embankments to protect the coast, and at the same time upgrade a number of important coastal roads to serve rescue work during the storm season.
