Attending the announcement ceremony were representatives of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam , the People's Committee of Nui Thanh district and many local people.
At the ceremony, Mr. Dang Huy Huynh - Vice President of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment, Chairman of the Vietnam Heritage Tree Council awarded the certificate of recognition of the Gangneo tree ( scientific name is Manilkara hexandra) in the grounds of Co Bac Dau Ganh mausoleum as a Vietnam Heritage Tree to the People's Committee of Tra Tay village.
According to local people, about 700 years ago, the Gang Neo tree was surrounded by a river. The tree stood on the edge of a bare hill, so the ancestors here named it the Dau Ganh tree.

The heritage tree of the Gand Neo is closely associated with the lives of the people of Tra Tay village as it is a resting place for local farmers during the farming process, a playground for generations of young children in the village. At the same time, there is a temple to worship the local god, so it has become a spiritual place for the locals and villagers.
During the resistance war against the French, the location of the banyan tree at the head of the cliff was a rendezvous point, a secret meeting place for communist party members and revolutionary soldiers in this area. During the resistance war against the US, this place was a witness to the first battles with American soldiers in the South.

According to Mr. Dang Huy Huynh, when receiving the application for recognition of the Vietnam Heritage Tree, the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment thought it was simply an ancient tree. However, when checking, the association was surprised by the way the villagers treated this ancient tree. The Gang Neo tree has been closely associated with the spiritual life, cultural life and traditions of this land.
“In addition to enjoying preferential conditions according to the regulations of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment for Vietnam Heritage Trees, we hope that local people will continue to preserve and protect the Gang Neo tree so that this place becomes a spiritual support, a historical symbol of this land. From there, promote and pass on the good traditions of the land and people of Tra Tay to future generations,” said Mr. Huynh.
