'Innovation Tree' at Nichias Hai Phong Company

The solution to reduce paper changing time to increase productivity and reduce the amount of discarded paper at the corrugating machine in the VOC and EX air filter and dehumidifier production workshop helped Mr. Hai win the Creative Labor Certificate for the third time in 2024 and is also one of his most valuable initiatives in 19 years of working here.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Hai said that the company's products are made from special paper materials, starting from the corrugated stage according to product standards. Paper materials are placed on the rollers on the corrugated machine, when the paper runs out, a new roll will be replaced to continue production. The problem is that the amount of paper discarded each time the raw material roll is replaced is up to 0.6 to 1.12 kg depending on the type of paper. In addition, manual operations also take 1 minute/time.

Not accepting waste, Mr. Hai started researching solutions to optimize the paper changing process. In just a few months, he completed and applied improvements: installing 2 sets of paper changing shaft holders and a measuring device to adjust the paper gap. Thanks to that, the paper changing time was reduced to 30 seconds/time, the amount of paper waste was reduced by 57.4%, equivalent to nearly 8.5 billion VND/year for three corrugated machines at a factory.

Not only does it bring great economic efficiency, Mr. Hai's initiative also contributes positively to reducing industrial waste and improving the working environment. In the context of increasing prices of imported materials, his solution helps the company save significantly on input material costs.

Previously, in 2019, the topic "Research and improvement to reduce costs and production time for VOC products" helped him to receive the Creative Labor Certificate for the first time. In 2023, he and his colleagues were awarded the Creative Labor Certificate and third prize in the Technical Innovation Contest for union members, workers and civil servants of Hai Phong city in 2023 - 2024 with the initiative "Research and design of a heat recovery system from a 500-degree Celsius product furnace at a rolling machine in a VOC air filter production workshop". On average, each year, Mr. Hai proposes 3-5 valuable improvements that bring in profits from hundreds of millions to billions of VND each year.

Starting out as a common worker after graduating from high school, Nguyen Duy Hai has been with Nichias Hai Phong since the early days. “I entered the factory with only a desire to learn and progress. The more I work, the more I understand the products and production processes, from which I come up with many ideas for improvement to make the job better and more efficient,” Hai said.

In just a short time, he quickly affirmed his ability, was promoted by the company's leadership to the position of team leader, then shift leader and now Deputy Head of the production department. It is his persistent commitment and constant exploration that has forged the "tree of initiative" Nguyen Duy Hai, strongly inspiring the young workers of Hai Phong to continue to light the fire of innovation, joining hands to bring the business and the city to rise strongly in the period of industrialization and modernization.
