In May 2025, the Women's Union of Quang Ninh province coordinated to organize the contest "Knowledge of mothers and children's health" in turn in localities throughout the province, attracting thousands of contestants and interested audiences. This playground is an opportunity for many female members to exchange and learn experiences in improving nutrition for children; especially targeting young women, women of childbearing age, those raising young children, and those raising children... Through competition forms such as situation handling, multiple choice questions, dramatization, video /clip performances... the competitions took place excitingly and attractively, helping to effectively convey a lot of useful knowledge to both team members and fans attending. Specifically including: Information on balanced and reasonable nutrition for pregnant and lactating women; Daily menu ensures energy and nutrients for children from 0 to 5 years old... These are all important issues, directly affecting the comprehensive development of children.
Ms. Chiu Sam Mui (Quang An commune, Dam Ha district) said: The contest helped her realize many shortcomings in taking care of her children. Daily meals only ensure that the stomach is full without paying attention to ensuring adequate and balanced nutrition. The reason is partly due to economic constraints, partly due to lack of information and scientific knowledge on this issue. It is still the work of taking care of the family's daily meals, but just by adjusting the way of choosing, preserving and processing food... it has also created clear changes in the quality of meals.
In recent years, the contents of the Project "Propaganda, advocacy, improvement of nutrition and physical strength for children in mountainous, ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Quang Ninh province" have been implemented by Party committees, authorities, departments, branches and organizations of the whole province. Many specific models, projects and programs have been and are being implemented at the grassroots level, with the goal of improving the stature and physical strength of ethnic minority and mountainous people, improving the quality of the population and human resources of the province. At the same time, it contributes to promoting gender equality and solving urgent problems for women and children.
In many communes and towns in the province's ethnic minority areas, the Women's Union is the core in building and maintaining models of early childhood care and education. Accordingly, they are the propagandists who "go to every alley, knock on every door, check every person" to skillfully mobilize and support families with young children on how to take care of their children's health at home, improving the malnutrition of mothers, infants and young children at each stage. Thanks to this team, programs and campaigns to raise awareness about nutritional care, vitamin supplementation, breastfeeding... have been widely disseminated and implemented. Especially, they have reached households in ethnic minority areas, remote areas, mountainous areas, and islands where information reception conditions are not as favorable as in the central area.
Along with that, training courses are being implemented by the Women's Union at all levels, coordinated to disseminate knowledge about health care and nutrition for children; about knowledge about nutrition care in the first 1,000 days of life in the community for the target groups of village health workers, nutrition collaborators, young women, mothers, caregivers of children in highland areas, ethnic minorities... Many units and organizations also regularly coordinate with milk brands to mobilize socialization, donate nutritional products, and supplement micronutrients for children under 5 years old in ethnic minority areas.
The provincial health sector also promotes nutritional counseling and care activities in the first 1,000 days of a child's life, integrated into prenatal care at health stations and in the community. Health facilities have implemented well the essential care process for mothers and newborns during and immediately after birth. In cases of normal birth, counseling is provided so that the baby can breastfeed early within the first hour after birth at the health station with delivery. At commune, ward and town health stations, screening and nutritional assessment are organized for pregnant mothers 3 times/pregnancy/person and 3 months/time/child for children under 2 years old; implementing nutritional counseling for children under 2 years old... At the same time, there is a support team to monitor and care for the health of mothers and newborns in the first 42 days after birth at home, contributing to ensuring that the national nutrition strategy in the province is consolidated from the province to the commune level.
The above efforts partly show the responsibility and high determination of the entire political system of Quang Ninh province for children in particular, and more broadly for the goal of constantly improving the quality of people's lives.
