( Quang Ngai Newspaper) - Favorable weather, abundant raw materials, and stable export orders are good signs for the province's seafood processing and export industry in the first days of the new spring.
Bustling "opening"
In late February, the working atmosphere at Hai Phu Seafood Import-Export Company Limited (Hai Phu Company) in Quang Phu Industrial Park (Quang Ngai City) was bustling again. At the preliminary processing and manufacturing workshop, more than 100 workers were busy with their work, men were busy transporting raw materials, women were quickly processing and filleting fish. In the freezing and storage area, a group of workers carefully checked each fish "ball" before transferring it to the product packaging department.
Deputy Director of Hai Phu Company Nguyen Duc Quang said that in early March, we paid an order of nearly 50 tons of seafood products to partners in the European market (EU). Therefore, from January 6 (February 15), the company has resumed operations with a bustling and urgent atmosphere, ensuring production operations to promptly handle export orders from the beginning of the year. In 2024, the company's seafood export orders will remain stable and increase slightly compared to 2023, so now we are also focusing on purchasing and preserving raw materials to proactively produce.

Along with Hai Phu Company, a number of seafood processing enterprises in Quang Phu Industrial Park such as Tan Thanh Seafood Processing Co., Ltd., Hung Phong Seafood Processing Trading and Service Co., Ltd., Ten Trai Co., Ltd.... also started production at the beginning of the year with the determination to achieve higher growth than in 2023.
Deputy Director of Tan Thanh Doan Thai Nguyen Seafood Processing Co., Ltd. said that there were not many orders at the beginning of the year, so our company focused on processing and preparing main products such as fish fillets, frozen shrimp and processing some products such as anchovies, mackerel, hairtail... for domestic and foreign customers. Along with that, we continue to seek markets, diversify and increase the value of products, in order to expand the domestic consumption market as well as export.
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province currently has about 28 enterprises (concentrated in Quang Phu Industrial Park) processing aquatic products, with a total capacity of over 30 thousand tons per year; of which 14 enterprises export aquatic products to the EU, China, Japan, Korea, etc. In addition, there are also a number of enterprises exporting fresh and frozen seafood through unofficial channels to the Chinese market or exporting on behalf of factories inside and outside the province.
Contribute to removing the "yellow card"
As the only enterprise in the province exporting seafood products to the EU market through official channels, along with production, Hai Phu Company is making every effort to best implement the recommendations of the European Commission on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU).
“Hai Phu Company absolutely does not commit fraud in the process of exporting and importing raw materials as well as products. Regarding raw materials, we commit not to import, but only purchase domestically, mostly in Quang Ngai province and neighboring localities, to pre-process and process products for export. Not only that, 100% of raw materials for export are inspected by competent authorities and granted certificates, certificates of exploited aquatic materials, to meet the requirements of product traceability”, Deputy Director of Hai Phu Company Nguyen Duc Quang affirmed.

Anchovy production is abundant, fish sauce processing facilities focus on purchasing raw materials for production. |
To proactively source raw materials for production, Hai Phu Company contracts with ship owners and captains who exploit seafood without violating regulations on combating IUU fishing, to purchase file fish, parrot fish, snapper, mullet, etc. Thereby, proactively sourcing raw materials for production, meeting the export demand of more than 1,000 tons of seafood each year, with revenue reaching 3 - 3.5 million USD. Most of the company's products are exported to the EU and South American markets. Thanks to that, it stabilizes regular jobs for more than 100 workers and creates seasonal jobs for thousands of local workers.
Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ho Trong Phuong said that in recent years, the seafood processing sector in the province has increased rapidly in both the number of enterprises and product types. Among them, there are many deep-processed seafood products of high quality, meeting the strict requirements of major markets such as the EU, Japan, Korea, etc. However, in order to "go out to sea", the seafood processing industry of the province needs large enterprises to lead, form a supply chain, and produce large-scale seafood to match the potential and advantages of the marine economy , especially investment in preservation and deep processing.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development continues to coordinate with agencies and units to effectively implement mechanisms and policies to support enterprises in investing in infrastructure and applying scientific and technological advances in production; at the same time, provide market information associated with propaganda and guidance for enterprises to implement regulations on combating IUU fishing.
BUSY FISH SAUCE PROCESSING FACILITY After the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024, the source of anchovies is abundant, combined with favorable weather, so many fish sauce processing facilities in the province are busy purchasing raw materials to serve fish sauce. The owner of Phuong Loan fish sauce production facility, in Ky Tan village (Duc Loi) said that traditional fish sauce is consumed strongly during Tet, so now our facility has imported anchovies, ready for a new batch of fish sauce. Along with processing fish sauce, many facilities producing and processing traditional seafood products such as frozen seafood, dried fish, steamed fish, fish cakes, etc. are also urgently purchasing raw materials, to enter the production season with the expectation of a year of "buying well, selling well". Local authorities and specialized sectors accompany and guide facility owners to ensure food safety and hygiene in the processing stages, in order to improve product quality and brand. |
Along with that, enterprises need to invest in innovating preservation and processing technology processes in a modern direction as well as forming a closed production chain, in order to improve product quality, meeting consumer needs. At the same time, diversifying processed products, deep processing associated with applying international quality management systems in production, saving costs, reducing prices to improve competitiveness in the domestic market as well as export.
