On the afternoon of May 23, at the 2025 graduation ceremony of the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology, Ms. Do Thi Phuong (Thanh Mien, Hai Duong ) was present early to wait to receive her diploma on behalf of her younger sister. Her younger sister, Do Ngoc Hue - a female student majoring in Information Security - passed away in February due to a traffic accident.

Looking at the stream of students wearing their bachelor’s gowns, Ms. Phuong continuously wiped away her tears. “If Hue had not had an accident, perhaps today I would also be standing here, radiantly receiving my diploma with my friends,” Ms. Phuong said, choking up.

Hue was born in 2002 and is a former student of Thanh Mien 1 High School. Throughout her high school years, she was the class monitor and had the highest academic achievement in her class. At that time, her whole family expected Hue to pursue a career in education like her sister, but Hue chose to take the entrance exam to the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology. In 2020, Hue scored more than 26 points and was admitted to this school.

“Hue has always been the pride of the whole family. She studies hard and sings very well. During her 4-5 years at university, she won scholarships many times. At those times, Hue always thought about her family, bought things, and took care of her parents and sister. As the older sister, I have not done anything for my sister,” Ms. Phuong cried.

On the occasion of Tet this year, when the semesters had finished, Hue shared with her family that she would soon receive a certificate of excellence. Hue planned to use the final semester scholarship of 12 million VND to take her whole family to Hanoi to attend the graduation ceremony.

“I told them that my parents had never been to Hanoi. On this occasion, I wanted to invite my parents and siblings to receive my diploma and have a meal together. My account still had the same amount of money, but I no longer had it,” said Ms. Phuong.

On the evening of the third day of Tet, when Hue and her best friend were on their way to a class reunion, they were both hit by a motorbike coming from the opposite direction. The collision left Hue seriously injured and unable to survive. The 23-year-old female student passed away a day later, before she could receive her university diploma.

During today's ceremony, the academy observed a minute of silence for the female student.

When the name of student Do Ngoc Hue was announced, Ms. Phuong was invited to receive the diploma on his behalf. Many people in the hall could not hold back their tears.

Receiving the engineering degree on behalf of her sister, Ms. Phuong said: “Hue always puts her family’s dreams above her own. Today, the whole family has fulfilled her dream on her behalf.”

Remembering her close friend, Nguyen Hoai Ngoc, a senior in Information Security, said that Hue was a simple person, studious, and always had top academic achievements in her class. The two had been friends since their first year of university, and planned to take a “youthful” photo shoot together on the day they received their diplomas.

“Graduation day should have been fun, but I felt sad because I didn't have my best friend by my side to fulfill my promise,” Ngoc said.
