Patient satisfaction and experience index help evaluate hospital efficiency

Recently, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital (HCMUMPH) organized a workshop on "Safety in Diagnosis and Treatment" with the aim of updating and providing the latest knowledge, sharing experiences in hospital management, capacity to implement quality management and patient safety in Vietnam in particular and the world in general.

Attending the program were Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan - Deputy Minister of Health ; Associate Prof. Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue - Vice Chairman of the National Medical Council, former Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health; Dr. Nguyen Trong Khoa - Deputy Director and Manager, Executive Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health; Dr. Duong Huy Luong - Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health; domestic and international reporters, and nearly 500 delegates who are leaders of health departments, leaders of hospitals, department managers, and hospital quality management staff.

Speaking at the meeting to direct and orient the implementation of patient safety, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan emphasized that, in the context of the global health sector facing many challenges, ensuring safety in diagnosis and treatment is an urgent and key task to improve the quality of health care.

"Safety in diagnosis and treatment is one of the top priorities of the Vietnamese health sector. To improve safety in diagnosis and treatment, the Ministry of Health has set out a number of important plans and policies, focusing on developing and perfecting standards and regulations on medical safety; promoting training and development of medical human resources; applying information technology, digital transformation and artificial intelligence; building a medical incident monitoring and reporting system; encouraging the participation of patients and their families, while ensuring physical and psychological safety and the working environment for medical staff," said Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan.

According to MSc. Le Nguyen Thuy Khanh - Manager and Director of the Quality Management Department of University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, one of the indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of safety work in medical examination and treatment is the patient satisfaction index and the patient experience index. Patient experience is the value that patients feel, the factor that builds "loyalty" - the return of patients. Patient choice is the most important factor that demonstrates the competitiveness of a hospital in the digital age. Patient experience helps hospitals make a difference and at University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, strategies to improve positive patient experiences have been implemented, identifying this as the most humane and sustainable strategy.
