Ancient po mu tree population in Bidoup – Nui Ba National Park with about 60 trees over 600 years old. The largest tree identified by scientists has lived for 1,300 years – becoming a special highlight of the tropical rainforest in the Southern Central Highlands. On the trunks of ancient po mu trees, moss and lichen grow very strongly. The largest po mu tree is about 1,300 years old, towering, 40m high, over 4m in diameter, 7-8 adults cannot hug it. Here the humidity is high all year round, heavy rainfall so there is a lot of moss living on all kinds of trees. Pơ mu trees live in concentrated populations, at an altitude of over 2,000m above sea level. Here all year round the humidity is very high, the wind blows strongly and there is a lot of rain. The scientific name of the po mu tree is Fokienia hodginsii (Dunn) A.Henry & HHThomas. This is a rare plant species belonging to the Cupressaceae family, valuable in terms of use and conservation. Moss grows in large clumps on the trunks of ancient trees. However, in recent years, the population of Lo Mu in Bidoup - Nui Ba National Park is being threatened by illegal loggers.
