On the afternoon of December 15th, Long Thanh Airport conducted its first test flight, departing from Tan Son Nhat Airport. This is a crucial preparatory step before Long Thanh Airport begins receiving passenger flights as planned on December 19th.
According to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the test flight used a Boeing 787 aircraft of Vietnam Airlines , flight number VN5001. The aircraft took off from Tan Son Nhat Airport at 3 PM and landed at Long Thanh Airport at 3:40 PM, completing all necessary checks of the operational systems.
Also on December 15th, a Boeing 787 will become the first aircraft to take off from Long Thanh Airport with flight VN5002 at 6 PM, then landing back at Tan Son Nhat Airport at 6:40 PM. This operation helps assess the synchronized operational capabilities between the two major airports in the Southeast region.
During the test flight, the aircraft performed takeoff, approach, and landing procedures according to civil aviation operating standards. Air traffic control, engineering, meteorological, flight procedures, and rescue personnel were trained and assigned shifts according to multi-round validated operating manuals, meeting ICAO and CANSO standards.

The first passenger flight operated by Vietnam Airlines is expected to land at Long Thanh Airport on December 19th. Subsequently, three more flights from Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, and Bamboo Airways will land, approximately 5 minutes apart.
ACV is focusing its resources and implementing the government 's directives with the basic goal of completing the Long Thanh airport project before December 19th. The plan is to put Long Thanh airport into operation and commercial exploitation in the first half of 2026, creating new momentum for the national aviation infrastructure.
