This package is divided into 2 implementation phases, including construction of water supply and drainage systems; installation of high voltage electricity; temporary relocation of electrical works (medium and low voltage), telecommunication works to corridor 5.
In phase 2, the contractor will permanently relocate underground electrical works (medium and low voltage) and telecommunications works into underground technical trenches to ensure conformity with the design and urban landscape. The entire relocation of technical infrastructure will take about 1.5 years to complete.
Metro line 2 is almost entirely underground along Cach Mang Thang 8 and Truong Chinh streets.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hien, Deputy Head of MAUR, said that the metro line 2 construction project is one of two important national railway projects in the city with a total investment of more than 2 billion USD, equivalent to about 47,000 billion VND.
Up to now, the districts have basically completed the procedures for issuing the Decision on compensation and site clearance for the project, reaching 99.6% (584 cases/568). Of which, districts 1, 10, Tan Binh, Tan Phu have achieved 100% handover of "clean" sites, while some cases in district 3 are still stuck due to compensation unit prices. The site handover rate of the entire project has now reached 86.69%.
"The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction and rearrangement of technical infrastructure, including electricity, drainage, water supply and telecommunications systems of the metro line 2 project today is a premise for preparing a clean site, both above ground and underground, to hand over to the main contractors to construct the station and tunnel in early 2025. Preparing a clean site and underground space will contribute to speeding up the progress, aiming to put metro line 2 into operation in 2030 as directed by the Prime Minister " - Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hien informed.
Leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, leaders of MAUR and representatives of departments, branches and sectors pressed the button to start the project.
MAUR leaders also committed to working with contractors, consultants, and project participants to make efforts, join hands, and focus all resources to speed up the construction progress, relocation, and rearrangement of the technical infrastructure system of metro line 2 to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency.
Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong affirmed that the official groundbreaking ceremony marked the milestone of the Ben Thanh - Tham Luong metro line. This is a project that plays an important role in developing the city's urban railway system, completing the transport network as well as beautifying, developing urban areas and promoting the economy and society of Ho Chi Minh City.
Metro Line 2 lays the foundation for the development phase of the city's underground space based on underground stations along the route. At the same time, this is a project that applies a new approach - ensuring "clean" site clearance and 100% "clean" technical infrastructure before constructing the main projects. In addition, this is also the first project in the city to apply the project information model from survey, design to supervision and construction implementation; applying advanced technologies in the construction implementation process such as underground drilling, underground power system, underground water supply system...
"This infrastructure relocation package alone has many large items. Due to the limited land area, contractors need to develop a reasonable construction plan to avoid traffic congestion. At the same time, the investor must coordinate with the locality to soon complete 100% of the land acquisition to ensure the project starts in 2025 as planned" - Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong directed.
The entire technical infrastructure relocation took about 1.5 years to complete.
Metro Line 2 Phase 1, from Ben Thanh to Tham Luong, has a total length of about 11.3 km, of which 9.3 km is underground and 2 km is elevated. The project has 11 stations, running along Cach Mang Thang 8 and Truong Chinh streets, passing through districts 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, along with the Tham Luong train parking area and depot in district 12 with an area of 25 hectares.
The project is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the German Development Bank (KfW), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and counterpart funds from the city budget. According to the plan, the project will be completed in 2026. However, due to difficulties in site clearance, the project completion date has been postponed to 2030.
Metro line 2 has 11 stations passing through districts 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh, Tan Phu.
